Absolutely correct. Tools are good slaves but bad masters. Obsession with their use w/o being sensitive to market sentiments can lead to our downfall too.

Correction: the message below should read as 3.24, instead of 2.24. Sorry for the typo.

I started this tread and would like to end with a note after selling off today: Agree that TA would help in terms of spotting trends, I tend to look at other factors like market sentiment, the stock performance per se. I would think that after coming off from 3.42, the stock presents a buy at 2.24. In a nutsell, don't be too obsessed with tools, be it FA or TA, use your gutfeel sometimes to feel the pulses of the market!

Yup, ksjlmp i agreed with you.

If you say SPC undervalued. Sembcorp Marine is also one of them. If you compare with Ke with the book order based on Business Time last week. In proportion, Sembcorp Marine is much better.....

Think that y the expert are target price of $4.00

Be patient, result will be out in less than 4 weeks. This counter is going to chong. Looking back the past increase order. $$ pay back is coming in lor... The is also not to mention the "at least" 1% cut.

Be patient... Big Wave is coming in....

Hi Singaporegal, how do you reconcile the influx of cash from the region into our market in terms of TA?  I also thought this counter was on a downtrend but most counters are up today, including this one.. I'm a little stunned.

I usually take what is written in the papers with a pinch of salt.

I'm not saying the writer is wrong.... but just that by the time the report/article comes out, its ancient history and the stock is past the accumulation phase (as victorian was mentioning in another thread).

Hi ksjlmp,

Sorry... didn't see your previous post.

A good TA book I recommend is from Larry Williams - Long Term Secrets to Short Term Trading.

Interesting view.... this 5.5 years thing.

I attended a talk by Larry Williams who swears by the year ending with 5. He says that 1985, 1995, 2005, 2015 etc... are confirmed bull run years. If you look at the STI index, most, if not all of these years ended higher than it did when it started.

Looking at the bottom of waves : 1987, 1992 which on the average is about 5.5 years, so had a  feeling that 2nd half of 1997 would not be good. When a colleague jokingly asked "Have you sold your shares yet ?" out of the blue as he had never asked this Q. I sensed that it was right time to let go. The next down could be in 2008 +/- 6 months. That is why some people are starting to get jittery. Would the IR prevent such a fall ? To some extent, may be the fall would not be so serious as the masses have not really come out with HDB resale prices hardly changed.

Hi Sporeguy,

Like what Easton says, there are many other ways to do TA but these set of charts seem to work well together for me. Thanks Easton!

Wow... you managed to sell off before the Asian crisis. That's really admirable. What kind of TA signals did you pick up that detected something was wrong?

So Sporeguy you do use Elliott Wave to guide you on top of the normal TA?  Would you reckon we are at the fifth wave then?

Hi Easton,

Much more than that, other than TA and FA, must also able to read or sense sudden change in the market feels which is why many investors are still jittery after the 1997 financial crisis. I sold almost all, 1 week before that 1997 episode. My broker was shock at the amount and rate that i sold.
