Personally, I support this move as it will encourage more retail investors to invest/trade, making the " play" more diverse and " fair" . Wealth is meant to be shared and everyone should benefit. As for commission charges, I believe there will be some slight adjustments also. But I probably would need some time getting use to seeing 1 lot trade being done. Interesting though, just my thought..

China's renew its carbon reduction targets, as well as reports that it is clamping down on coal production, has led analysts to turn bearish on the outlook for coal.

Coal generated 40% of world's electricity, and its use has grown more than 50% in the past decade, according to the U.S. Energy Info Administration. But the fossil-fuel is well-known for its detrimental environmental impact, causing air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions that are strongly linked to global warming.

http://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/stocks-focus-sg-capitamalls-asia-055220338.html

Rex International Awards Drilling Contract To Aban 7
Rex International said in a press release statement that its jointly-controlled entity, Lime Petroleum, through its subsidiary Masirah Oil, has awarded a drilling rig contract to Aban 7 for the execution of its drilling programme in the company?s Block 50 Oman concession. Under the terms of the contract, Masirah will secure the services of the Aban VII drilling jack-up rig to spud and drill a minimum of two exploration wells ? Masirah North North #1 and Masirah North East #1. The contract is anticipated to commence between mid-October and mid-November 2013 for an effective minimum period of 50 working days. Mans Lidgren, chief executive officer of Rex International said: ?The firm rig contract with Aban gives assurance that our drilling programme in Oman is progressing according to plan. The programme in Oman is an important step for the company in the roll-out of our drilling campaign throughout our portfolio.?

Significance: The prospects of the two wells were selected for drilling after in-depth technical evaluation and verification using the proprietary Rex Virtual Drilling technology on top of other conventional methodologies. Production can potentially start by 1H14 through utilisation of an early production system if the drilling of the wells yield successful discoveries.

How to Use a Cash Flow Statement When Making Investment Decisions

The cash flow statement is like the company?s checkbook register. It records the actual movement of all the cash in the company, showing which activities generated the money coming in and what was actually paid for in that quarter. The cash flow statement measures the movement of money from three different activities ? operations, investments, and financing.image0.jpg
  • Operating activities: The cash flow statement starts with the net income from the income statement, making it the top line. It then adds back in depreciation (an accounting device in which no actual cash moves), other operating expenses that don?t involve cash, and gains from the sale of assets. These items add up to the net cash generated from operating activities

  • Investing activities: Any money spent on the purchase of new assets such as machinery, plants, or land gets classified as a capital expenditure, or CapEx. These new assets go to the future production of income. Companies invest in capital expenditures to maintain and grow the business. Cash flow from investing activities subtracts capital expenditures from all income generated by these assets.

  • Financing activities records the financing of the company?s operations, including the payment of dividends, the sale or purchase of stock, and the net amount the company has borrowed.

Although seeing the change in total cash flow over the time period listed is good, the more important take-away number is called free cash flow. Here?s the formula:

Free Cash Flow = Net Cash from Operating Activities ? Capital Expenditures

Negative free cash flow doesn?t automatically mean the company is in trouble. It may be making huge investments for future earnings growth. However, it?s not a good sign for the dividend investor. Companies need to have cash on hand to pay dividends. If they don?t have enough cash on hand, they need to take on debt to make the payments or simply stop paying dividends. Borrowing funds to pay dividends isn?t sustainable, so free cash flow gives a clear look at how secure the dividend is.
