You re propagandists? Kindly, give the stats..   My friends are all over these places.   They never want to come Singapore, except to do business, so you think they worse off?   If worse off, they will die die want to get PRs Singapore like those third world citizens, such as Bangladeshis, the Filopinos, the Madras-Indians and the Thais (Thais, not so much nowadays because Thailand life is ok despite political conflicts.).   So that is why I said Japan, S.Korea and Taiwan are still a better place to live.   Singapore is beautiful in looks, clean, garden city appearance, multi-cultural and colorful people from all over the globe, yellow, black, white and some reds, you can see in MRTs.   These are mostly " cari makan" foreigners.

S'pore cannot afford " revolving door" style of govt: MM Lee

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew

SYDNEY: Singapore cannot afford to have a " revolving door" style of government where top leaders change every five years.

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said the country needs good, competent people who will stay.

And this is why they must be paid market rates.

Mr Lee was speaking to reporters in Sydney at the end of his visit to Australia and New Zealand.

From parliamentary secretaries to ministers, the top level in the civil service is paid a total of S$46 million annually.

That is 0.13 percent of the total government expenditure or 0.022 percent of GDP.

On Monday, the civil service pay review will be announced in Parliament.

The Minister Mentor warned that the Singapore economy would be in jeopardy if it does not pay top dollar for top people.

He said if this S$46 million was cut to maybe S$36 million or S$26 million, the country would save S$20 million but in the process, would jeopardise an economy of S$210 billion.

" So for the average family earning S$1,500-S$3,000, we are talking of astronomical figures but for people like me in government, to deal with the money which we have accumulated by the sweat of our brow over the last 40 years, you have to pay the market rate or the man will up stakes and join Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers or Goldman Sachs and you would have an incompetent man and you would have lost money by the billions," said Mr Lee.

While other countries may have leaders who are paid less, Mr Lee said rewarding Singapore leaders well is a system that has worked and is above board.

He said: " If you are going to quarrel about S$46 million – up or down another S$10 to S$20 million – I say you don't have a sense of proportion."

And when it comes to benchmarking, Mr Lee said his own annual income, which is S$2.7 million, is a fraction of what the top managers in the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) earns.

He said: " The cure for all this talk is really a good dose of incompetent government... your asset values will disappear, your apartments will be worth a fraction of what it is, your jobs will be in peril, your security will be at risk and our women will become maids in other persons' countries - foreign workers."

When asked to comment on the perception that political leaders should not be in it for the money, and instead, be ready to make that extra sacrifice for the good of the people, the Minister Mentor said it is an admirable sentiment.

But he added that it had taken much persuasion to get leaders like Dr Ng Eng Hen, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Dr Balaji Sadasivan, who had lucrative practices, to give it all up to join politics, with no guarantee of success. - CNA/so

Yes. All given new flats have moved. I asked one of these left out   families to press their MPs, but they went and were told no MPs because of the election.   Actually I realized that no MPs are around now because Parliament has dissolved and the MPs are not working.   So things have to wait after the elections to see if can be solved..If not, then a few more will become homeless.

niuyear      ( Date: 06-May-2011 13:43) Posted:

so, " those who were not given a flat" sitll staying there, and the rests already moved out?

Not all PAP Mps are bad.   But few are good.   Out of 87 MPS, only a handful can be said to be doing real good work for the people.

There are many policies that are stifling the people.   Look at this situation I came across.

There was an enblock at a certain area in Sims Drive. (Aljunied GRC?).   The HDB wants back the couple of blocks for re-development (sometimes it eventually turns out for something else, so we won't knw the real purposes).   Owners were given new flats in exchange at a new location.   But " stupid" HDB policy prevented some owners from getting the new flats because they are lower income families judging from their CPF contributions.   So theoretically cannot afford future installments, according to HDB's theory.   They are refused to be given their entitled flats after agreeing to enblock.   They were not given the new flats to select. So I think they will become homeless soon, i.e. when their enblocked flats are pulled down or redeveloped. Currently the families are still staying there, but who knows what HDB can do.   I know the MPs have not done anything to help, nearly a year already and soon these people will suffer without homes..

This is terrible.   Ridiculous! Why when someone has been living peacefully in his own flat, you, the HDB,   come and ask them to give up their flats Since everyone else were given alternative flats, why these poorer people not given? Discriminating between the well offs and the poor?   What is the MP doing?   I think he scared of   HDB or MBT, is it?   Then let the opposition " taruk" him if you can't do it.   I remembered when LKY asked people to abandon their kampungs, they gave them HDB flats regardless of their income status. Bad policies will affect PAP for sure.   They will lose seats, yes seats in certain areas.

No need, since they  are much wanted to be voted " out" of the system and replaced by other parties.

So, the issue of " TOP Notch Salary"   will not be an issue any more.

Ones pays LV hangbag for $10,000.00, for  their quality,  other pays $50 fake LV bags for their cheapness but yet, they can have the LV brand though lousy quality.

NO MORE ownership of  HDB  .    Just pay monthly , and be happy.  No more COV to talk about, or unfairness,  and  Cooling measures are not needed. anymore.

You also want stock market to go up right? But it didn't, right or wrong?

Singapore dollars has been strong owing to the small size economy. If you have small amount of something, that something will be up in price mostly. Like gold, like silver.

Change??    What you want to change in singapore?

Strong S$ to become weaker?  Do away with the convenience of transportation as in mrt etc

No more Ownership of  HDB, since everyone complains cant afford to buy , ok, lets rent to you, you cant own any HDB flats any more.

No tax means no more subsidy in healthcare

Crisis - what crisis?    No more national reserve, you fan for yourself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A fair game in letting oppositions to show " how they could lead " , the only way is to vote them into the seats of Parliament.

But, ideally in a more progressive mannar where performance is to be gauged over a long period of time.    Only with proven track record, people's confidence level raised,    then you could know, can their system work and  can the nation progress thereafter?

Subject: What LKY Said in 1956

" Repression, Sir, is a habit that grows. I am told it is like making love, it is always easier the second time! The first time there may be pangs of conscience, a sense of guilt. But once embarked on this course with constant repetition you get more and more brazen in the attack. All you have to do is to dissolve organizations and societies and banish and detain the key political workers in these societies. Then miraculously everything is tranquil on the surface. Then an intimidated press and the government-controlled radio together can regularly sing your praises, and slowly and steadily the people are made to forget the evil things that have already been done, or if these things are referred to again they're conveniently distorted and distorted with impunity, because there will be no opposition to contradict."

Lee Kuan Yew as an opposition PAP member speaking to David Marshall, Singapore Legislative Assembly, Debates, 4 October, 1956

Most of the problem we faced now is due to  the " competent" people policies.... A person who cannot self reflect on his mistake can never improve, but deprove more....  That's why we must need to have a strong party to remind their mistake and make them changed...
