The million  or more from APB sale which will be earned by Thai Bev will go into the takeover funds for F& N itself and not distribute in the form of special dividend... No doubt long term is good but short term prospects  is murky

But hor, I believe Thai Bev share price will shoot up on the conclusion of the F& N EGM in which the sales of APB to Heineken is finalised... Thereafter its share price will drop as investors focusing on its debt leverage (given its mandatory takeover for F& N) as the APB sales is out of the picture....

Sell too early. THBev will benefit about a million or more from APB sale.

Its share price will up further.

Thai Bev has rebounded... I took the opportunity to sell at 35.5 cents which I bought at 35 cents...Too kiasi.... Earn only a few bottles of Chang Beer only ....Will I regret later?

It has rebounded cos Thai Bev has indicated it will not vote against Heineken deal.... But then I think since Thai Bev is mounting a takeover for F& N itself, it will be saddled with debts... Short term prospects not good but long term is good... History has shown that for takeover, (at least in short term), the acquirer stock will be hammered down or remain stagnant at best ( I may be wrong for there are always exception)...

Not really if u really look into the situation. Interpret it.

F& N is purchased to be torn apart.... to profit.

ThaiBev may have a potential to outshine. That Thai is a raider man...ha

The takeover bid for F& N has a 50:50 chance of succeeding, says Lee Kok Joo, head of research at Phillip Securities, after ThaiBev and TCC Assets’ $8.88/share offer.

“We can’t conclusively state that ThaiBev is going to get F& N for sure now. I wouldn’t say that at this moment,” Lee notes, adding it depends on the funding that ThaiBev can get “they are probably already at their limit of their funding.” He is also waiting to see if Heineken responds, noting that “Heineken has said very clearly it wants APB.” Lee notes that the $8.88/share offer price is fair -- while the premium may not look like much from F& N’s last traded price of $8.51, it ran up from less than $7.00 when ThaiBev began purchasing shares “it presents some kind of value to existing shareholders to accept.”

Lee also notes “we’re not really sure what ThaiBev’s intention for control is. Do they want to break up the company?”

Normally, buyer's share down and seller's share up in short term.

Thai Beverage said to be in talks for $9b F& N financing

Thai Beverage Pcl is in talks with banks for financing of about $9 billion as it considers a bid for the rest of the shares in Fraser & Neave it doesn’t already own, two people familiar with the matter said.

The loan is expected to be denominated in Singapore dollars and other terms such as tenor and structure haven’t been determined, one of the people said, asking not to be identified because the details are private.

About six banks, including lenders from Singapore and Malaysia, are involved in the talks, the people said. Any financing is also expected to involve HSBC Holdings Plc and Standard Chartered Plc, two of the three banks which provided Thai Beverage with a $2.8 billion bridge loan to back its initial purchase of shares in F& N, one of the people said.

Thai Beverage is seeking to expand its business in Asia through F& N’s networks, Chief Executive Officer Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi told reporters in Bangkok yesterday. Sirivadhanabhakdi couldn’t immediately be reached for comment on the potential $9 billion financing today. Jenny Yeo, a Singapore-based Thai Beverage spokeswoman who works for Kreab Gavin Anderson, declined to comment.

Thailand’s biggest beer maker agreed last month to pay $2.78 billion for a 22% stake in Singapore-based F& N, a 129-year-old conglomerate with businesses ranging from brewing and soft drinks to shopping malls and apartment buildings. The move prompted Heineken NV to bid $5.6 billion for a controlling stake in Asia Pacific Breweries, which is partly owned by F& N.

MANDATORY OFFER

Thai Beverage, which is listed in Singapore, has since raised its stake in F& N to 29%, less than the 30% that would trigger a mandatory offer for the company.

The company is considering replacing the $2.8 billion bridge loan with longer-term debt, two people familiar with the matter said Sept. 4. It may consider taking out the 12-month facility with debt that has a maturity of three, five or seven years, those people said.

The bridge facility from HSBC, Standard Chartered and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. pays a so-called all-in rate of about 180 basis points to 190 basis points more than benchmark rates, the people said last week.

Hi Ted, you can trade SET with Phillips Securities POEMS. I just sold off Thanachart Capital. Made a loss even though i bot it at average 32.2 baht and sold off at 33.5 baht. The loss was because of weakening of baht vs sgd. If you want to keep SET counters or any foreign counters for mid-term to long term, there is the FOREX risk because the foreign currency may weaken against the sgd.

Check out the thai SET website below, after clicking choose the english version,  its more user friendly than SGX. You can look at a company's stats - financial history at one glance

I'm not in yet, because I'm leveraged at the moment and my portfolio is still down. I would recommend this as its thai bev + F& N combined, but can wait until the dust has settled and see the outcome of the struggle for APB first.

Thai Bev's 1H 2012 pretty impressive, equivalent to about 1.5cents SGD EPS. Up 58% compared to 1H 2011.

Nice bluechip as it now owns 26% of F& N and has good chance of keeping APB...

see SGX website above, thai bev wants to hasten the 22% takeover of F& N so that it can also decide on Heinekin's proposed buyout of APB... this is an interesting event :)
