I remember reading somewhere in Dec  that SGX will underperform due to lower volume because of clamp-down on short-selling and reduction in derivatives trading... seems possible that price will continue to fall.

anyone has more to add or counter this view?

DJ now in red, around 94. No adverse news fr state. Presume profit taking is still ongoing at DJ.

2morow just take Nikkei Q, n later HSI to gauge trading pattern. As it is TGIF, a damper must be given to last Tue n Wed heavy gain loh.

Agreed, joke aside, BBs were around since Tue, if u observant enough in the intraday trading in each stock, esp the blue chip, ie UOB, SIA, Kepcorp, n today DBS joined in the fun.

Now DJ is in green, if by closed, it stays green, would STI tomorrow swing up again?

AK confused loh, seems like STI tends to follow HSI rather than DJ, a typical exmp today.

The recent spike in price does not seem supported with unusually large volumes. Be cautious.

SGX Seeks Public Views to Enhance Transparency in Short Selling Activities 27 Nov

SGX currently publishes the daily list of buying-in securities and details of the prices and volumes of shares bought-in to keep the investing public informed of the short selling activities that fail delivery in our marketplac

I think any effort to curb short selling will reduce trading volume even more and affect SGX revenue.

cheongwee, several good posts here. Would like to emphasize

1. sound to me like turtle trading techniques where cut loss at 10% and let profit take care of itself.

2. Yes, dont listen to analysts call and brokerage firms advice. confirm lose money in long run.

it is not difficult to make profit from stock market but human emtions make it difficult. so 1 will take care of emotions. stock market is all about mass psychology, same piece of news in bull and bear market will result in different reaction. analyst and brokerage often advice late or wrongly due to personal agenda.

however, i am timing the market, i am worried that current low of 1600 is only end of a wave, and beginning of a corection which is why indexes like STI are jittery and volume is getting lower. And further bad news will push market down to new low to 1200 perhaps. so may not be a good time to by stocks and so may not be best time to average down either. i would rather be confident and average up during a evident bull where prices are moving up with heavy volume trading. And of course, SGX is my fav as it is high beta (eg. STI moves 5%, SGX moves 10%).

if one have spare cash and would like to entry at 1600 range, can try OCBC pref share for lower risk (but also low beta)

my 2c worth.

U should ask yourself what mistake u have make..and never repeat it again..

When you bought the counter, you should set a px to cut..for me that is 10%..and let profit run, sell only on reversal..

Majority, ppl buy easily, and when got profit did not take because of greed, and then finally, it go down way below their buying px and stuck there for good...hoping it go back up..but if it is going down, most likely it will...so you should cut lose fast...take care the downside and the upside will take care of itself.

Dont listen to those analyst at shareinvester or any investment seminar calling you to hold and stay on..this is stupid, there is an opportuniy cost to pay....imagine if i did not join in the big sale way back,  today i will be sitting on big losses like you..but now i can comfortably buy my counter which have gone down much more, that i can afford to buy much more lots and break even faster without coming out more money..like what you do to average down.

I suggest that you look to another counter , mid cap, that got potential to double up faster and who know a multi bagger that make you more money than averaging down on this one. Look around, there are alot..i believe when good time come back capitaland will go up more than double easily over this one..and some mid cap can go a few time higher ...DYODD

Now, it look like u are stuck here for a long time..do u think it can go back to 10 easily, at these hard time...sell to strength..

But i dare not say for fear of repercussion, but i see a sti 1200 bottom..and i am sticking to my gun..you much do your own due diligent..i am sticking to my 1200 before i buy long...now only trading..only.

good luck..hope i help.

I am stuck with 2 lots at almost around $10 bought some months back. Not sure if it is good at today's price to average down. Can anyone advise?

Yes, you are right, if you long now,,but this crises have yet to bottom, dont you agree?..so there are further downside..so y buy now when you can profit more when you buy later..i means this are meant for value investing only.....of course you may day trade daily, like i do..i am 50/50..but for long that is not now..of course if you look at the bigger picture..i am totally agree with you...what we buy now is at one of the lower percentile, if a few years down the road we look back, the px will be of non issue.

i will stick to my gun...STI 1200..DOW 7000..i can be wrong.DYODD...but will be monitoring for strong reversal..but current look like there is a rally coming to take dow to 10000 to 10500..before it go back to new low..wish you all the best and all..market is always there but not the investers..

Guys.. using a statistical guideline you should know that every crisis especially now is along the lower percentile which means OUTSIDE the Average economy enviroment. Therefore i can just rename it as opportunity.

2nd , if anyone wish to outsmart the market and profit. It will be during where uncertainty is high as well as volatility.

Conclusion: No matter how hard you guess, the probability of winning the market is almost the same if not lesser compare to just PUTTING the money now and draw out 5 years later..

Far sighted technique is definately better than myopic technique when including the time and effort in consideration.
