I suggest to buy NOL when freight rate start to bounce up. Now is moving to downtrend as you can see the the freight rate chart is moving down since May 2012.

The peak surcharge has been shouted by Maesrk and other  container lines  since July 2012 but the freight rate keep on dropping due to overcapacity. The current freight rate  and bunker price point to NOL either breakeven or making loss in 4Q.

The freight rate between China and US has dropped from 3900 in May 2012 down till 3300 now.

No vested at this moment.

more gressive in rates   as Maersk is more focused on profit levels...instead of expansion...sure cheong!!!

COPENHAGEN: Danish conglomerate A.P. Moeller-Maersk will no longer invest heavily in Maersk Line, the world's biggest container ship operator, and will instead focus on its oil, drilling rigs and ports units, it said on Monday.

" We will move away from the shipping side of things and go towards the higher profit generators and more stable businesses," chief executive Nils Andersen told the Financial Times as he announced a major shift in strategy for Maersk.

Last year, Maersk Line posted a net loss of $540 million, while the oil division reported a profit of $2.1 billion, the drilling unit earned $495 million and ports made $649 million.

Maersk's container business has been affected by a slowdown in routes between Europe and Asia, where it has cut capacity this year amid a volatile outlook for the industry.

The group said earlier this month it expected global demand for seaborne containers to rise by 3.0 percent this year, which was lower than the 4.0 percent stated in the second quarter.

Maersk Line is the group's main subsidiary, which holds 16 percent of the global market share. It said it expects a " modest positive result" this year after freight rates rose in the second half of the year.

A.P. Moeller-Maersk more than tripled its net profit to 5.15 billion kroner (690 million euros, $880 million) in the third quarter, somewhat lower than what analysts had expected.

China to US freight rate has dropped from 3800 to 3300 per teu.

Getting worse. What positive is bunker fuel is cheaper now.

My advise is don't touch NOL in next 3 months. The container freight rate is getting worse.

NOL has sold 2 vessels to Diana Shipping but chartered back with very higher freight rate in return of  minor impairment loss.

No vested in  short term, especially this bearish market  since the container freight rate may continue go down and become the excuse of shortist to short NOL down.

freight rates are improving and especially to usa...maersk made 498million thrid quiaretr.

Logistics giant raises its full-year guidance as quarterly profit soars 191 per cent on improved container shipping performance

AP Moller-Maersk has announced a strong set of results for the third quarter (Q3) of 2012, with profit well above the prior-year period, driven by a much-improved performance from its container shipping arm Maersk Line.

Profit came in at US$933m (€732m), well ahead of the US$371m (€291m) recorded in the third quarter of 2011, with cash flow from operating activities standing at US$2.9bn (€2.3bn) from US$2.1bn (€1.6bn) last year.

" We deliver a good result for the quarter considering the challenging economic environment," said group CEO Nils Andersen (pictured). " Thanks to our rate initiatives and cost reductions, Maersk Line is back in black figures year-to-date, and the high oil price supports a satisfactory result for Maersk Oil. We are expanding our terminals network in Latin America, Russia and other growth markets and expect our strategic initiatives to support both our returns and earnings stability as we move forward."

Maersk Line's profit for the period was US$498m (€391m), compared with a loss of US$289m (€227m) in 2011, with an average rate increase of 5.7 per cent to US$3,022/FFE with rates higher on all main trades.

Volumes were unchanged at 2.1m FFE, the group noted, with head haul volumes down 15 per cent on the Asia-Europe trade.

" Maersk Line has done what they set out to do when we entered the second quarter and will continue their efforts to secure rates at a level where we can achieve a fair return on our investments," Andersen added.

APM Terminals' profit for the period was US$160m (€125m), down slightly from US$173m (€136m) last year, while volume throughput increased by 4 per cent to 9m TEU from 8.6m TEU.

The group's overall result for 2012 is forecast to be around US$3.7bn (€2.9bn) from US$3.4bn (€2.7bn) in 2011, with an impairment of US$267m (€209m) in Maersk Tankers recognised in Q3.

" Maersk Line still expects a modest positive result in 2012 based on higher average rates in the second half of the year," the group noted. " Global demand for seaborne containers is expected to grow modestly in 2012 with a decline in inbound European volumes."

NOL continue to unload their old vessel (asset) to finance cash.

2Q result show NOL make impairment loss of 108mil due to unload 5 old vessel.

So just take note one more vessel is unloaded and 20Mil impairment loss will be recorded in coming quarter. But 200Mil will recorded impairment gain from NOL building sales. So, in total 180Mil impairment gas in last quarter report.

But Overall still making loss in 2012.

No vested(Want to vest but no money)
