So u see my dear friends.... your ?best friend? is something you know & can trust... for me it's my trusted "little friend" ie the chart(s) & TA.... it doesn't matter what the "experts" say.... PO (price objective or target price) is maybe for 12 mths or 6 mths down the road....

The market or economic pic may change by next week or next mth... so do you still rely on the accuracy of the reports....?? There's a little book that I?ve just read, written by a very well known "guru" from US.... he's the unsurpassed winner of the Robbins World Cup Championship of Futures Trading...... (I know we're taking @ the stock market.... not the futures here....) This guy is "awesome"....

He mentioned about the May..... October effects... and that he predicted the market for 2005 would rally. He wrote in his manuscript for a book that in the fall of 2001 he expected a market low to occur about the same time of the year ? i.e. the fall of 2002. He didn't know about 911 then.... & it happened?.

Based on his research, he also mentioned that there is likely a market bottom in 2006 (@ October). His study & research dated back to 1881-1990.... & to more recent yrs.... 2002 & 2006.... Hear this, he said the year 2007  is likely to be a "poor" year for stocks..... TRUE OR NOT...

Sorry, in order NOT to stir up a long argument @ the merits or demerits of his study.... I would like to keep his name confidential..... for the time being........ let's wait & see if he's right...... I'm keeping an open mind @ what he?s said... who knows he may be right....??

He said, ?Incidently, one should also be looking for significant market bottoms in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, 2026, 2030, 2034, 2038? etc??. Is he correct?. Or wrong?? ???

Yup, you are right, Galaxy65. Have read the SGD 2.00 target price for Chartered in end April after its Q1 results.

With all the reports and announcements available, we still need to be careful. Look what happened to ACCS, China Aoil and Citiraya .... etc ... Playing shares is like gambling - especially those who do contra - its pure right gambling.

I do my Chartered homework in Chartered's Nasdaq listing (Quote: CHRT). News from US is faster since Chartered main biz is from there. Even its Q results are announced in US!

2 Analysts ... 2 different versions.... hahaha..

What does it tell you about the usefulness of research reports??

By the way, those 2 reports are done by highly "qualified" CFAs from established broking houses.... one from overseas & the other a local one....

As average retail investors we need to be careful when making decisions.... so let's not take things for granted...... I believe someone earlier mentioned "caveat emptor".......

Chartered's Q2 results may be flat or in line as announced .... But one should look ahead to Q3 & Q4 instead.

Chartered is attractive after 2H towards Christmas. (See previous my post in Chartered's forum). So, I am into Chartered till next year.

So it's up to one when to position himself to catch the ride when the market rally (after world cup & next week's Fed meeting???) ..... Trade with care ya!

Swiss up 1 -0 against Togo now! Shiok!

One of the financial institutions in Spore reported in their earnings review of Chartered Semicon in Apr 2006..... and I quote ".... rising margins & expanding mix in Q1 & Q2 support our turn-around thesis and position the company for significant earnings upside in 2H06..... We raise our price objective from  ...... to $2.00........"

Another local stock broking house reported in June 06..... ".... US brokers highlight the risk that if the rising inventory levels do not clear by 2H06, coinciding with new capacity coming on stream, it may lead to another downturn..... Global semicon stocks(Intel, AMD, TI, Qualcomm, Hynix, Samsung & Broadcom) have taken a beating in the mth of May 06, in line with global stock markets' downturn...... it is likely to result in disappointing results ahead, depressing share prices further....."

There you have it..... 2 different reports from 2 different companies.... To believe or not to believe the report(s) & its projected price is for you to DO YOUR HOMEWORK....... which one would you believe in ...... ? You decide for yourself......

whatever the Q2 reports says, it has no impact on the TA indicators. still downtrending as far as I can see.
