Of course la, I am not on/against the "stopping" of exchange dat why my previous post was on a "funny" note. For me, I love to share whatever I know and I believe you too, will share whenever you can. But not everyone does that, like that forumeer who "argued" with that girl mentioned something like "what more can one expect from a free forum". And I seriously believe that there are others out there who are more "pro" than the active forum participants but they choose not to post anything here. So let make this forum a more "lively" place with all our posts and hopefully, can benefit others.
By the way, generally speaking, "stopping" any potentially beneficial exchange of ideas may not be the best way to go... :)
In fact, unless the arguments turn ugly, there's really no need to silent the exchange, coz the ideas generated can be highly educational and thus beneficial for members.
iPunter, that post you are referring is it the one when I "shouted" for help on TA? Then there was this "argument" between that two forumeers? If yes, I roughly know what that forumeer wrote but I also cannot recall that posting.. Luckily, singaporegal "stop" the "argument" if not, I won't be able to get the help from singaporegal, hehe.
Thanks a zillion, shplayer and lausk22...
One good thing about this forum is the help one can get when one needs it...
I remember I previously reading a thread in which one of the members I think a female) here described the different types of forumers here, how some only 'listen in' to take benefits , etc... An interesting thread, but I couldn't find that thread now... can someone help me to locate it?
Many thanks... :)
Same as playing SGD share, except u have to enter USD when u do online trading and want to play contra.Otherwise the broking house will convert the price to SGD for buy and sell and u lose out in exchange rates. For foreign marts, I think some broking houses offer the specific currency denominated accounts so that u can keep your shares in USD/HK/Ringgit etc with them w/o u suffering possible exchange losses when the rates are not in your favour..
USD stock...you can pay in USD and receive sales proceeds in USD.
You can also pay or receive sale proceeds in SGD at prevailing rates convert by your broking firms. But, this way, you are exposed to exchange rate spreads in both the buy and sell transactions and exchange rate fluctuations....which may work out to be quite costly.
I prefer to pay and receive in USD.....that way, I do not incur exchange rates spreads.
Can someone teach me how to play stocks trading in US$
eg. StarcruiseUS$?
Why is it in US$.
Is there any difference from normal local stocks?
Volumes are inconsistent... TA people should avoid
Hi Shplayer - Thanks for your superfast response. All of us must be careful in our postings or else we may one day land ourselves in hot soup, in spite of any well-intended ones.
hikitty,
Thanks for the clarification. I must have missed that part where they metioned 'gaming'.
Not vested.
It's a curious coincidence that very often SC shares are down when the US currency is down or stays flat. It seems the active traders are betting on both sides of the game when trading in SC shares. When US currency is up, the shares often show an uptrend. Hope other SC shareholders will correct me if my observation is wrong, pse.
I quote from para 2 page 7 of its latest interim report as follows:
Turnover and operating profit
The Group is principally engaged in the operation of passenger cruise ships.Cruise and cruise related revenues comprise sales of passenger tickets, including, in some cases, air transportation............ and other related services, including gaming, food and beverage. In this instance, it is evident that its gaming income does not accrue to Genting. As "gaming revenue" may be considered a "commercial secret" , it is not stated as a separate item in the "Notes to the consolidated financial statements". If the "erroneous" posting is not correct, it may cause "panic" to other SC shareholders who may read it. If I am not wrong, any forum participant may be sued by a listed company for any posting that may cause market panic to its shares, wittingly or unwittingly. It, therefore, pays to check one's facts before making any specific comments about any company through this forum.
shplayer,
Although I lost a lot but everytime I visit a casino, I can easily "spot" out a "professional gambler" who are winning from 20-30 people losses in a single stake although casino always have house advantage.
So if Genting Group will to pay rent to SC, this is better than having a average weighted 70% sales of their tickets every now and then.
But all these are my assumptions from a gambler side of me for discussion. If SC is not denominated in US dollars, I will consider longing this counter but definitely not at the current price as it is too pricey for me in my own contexts.
rogue_trader,
Yes, I agree that there are many ways SC can generate revenue....but the fact that you mentioned in your post, that you always lose $$$ in the casino, testifies to the lucrativeness of the casino business.
If my presumption is correct (i.e. casino is separate from SC), I think many investors of SC, may have mistakenly have the impression that the 'on board' casino operation business is part of its business and hence, they put their $$ on this counter.
As for the arrangement between Genting and SC on the on board casino, I suppose Genting pays rent to SC for the use of space on board.
Hi shplayer, I do not have any vested interest in this counter but I would like to discuss on your post as I always generate cashflow to casinos (lose $$).
Firstly, SC can generate income from other revenues like F&B, tickets other than the casino thingie. So if I will look at their strategy now, since their tickets is usually priced at the higher end for a balcony cabin, won't it be good that SC will be "compensated" in some ways or another for their "unsold tickets".
Secondly, I think STB will tied up with the casino operators to "rope" in more tourists maybe through financial incentives since there will be a surge in the employment figures once the casinos are up & running = win-win situation.
Thirdly, what about those "earnings" collected through the "casinos" on board the ships? Will it be under Genting Group or SC?
Correct me if I am wrong......the casino operations on board the StarCruise ships are part of the Genting group and not under SC. I briefly looked thru their financials and could not find any mention of revenues/profit from gaming/casino.
If this is so, then SC is only involved in the cruise and entertainment business and does not have benefit from the money spinner casino business. In this case, this business is not too interesting cos investment in cruise ships is capital intensive and selling cruise tickets is competitive and usually used as a 'loss leader' for the benefit of the more lucrative gaming/casino business.
appreciate comments from members.
Starcruise has been a speculative stock for a few years, gyrating between a low of 0.18 cents in 2003 to a high of 0.365 cents or thereabouts in January 2005. After hitting that peak, it did not recover at all to a new peak, but had dipped all the way to a low of 18 cents for many many months in 2006, recovering recently to a high of 28 cents today (because of the IR lead, but without the need to raise the required capital for its JV with Genting through another rights issue) before closing at 0.265 cents on profit taking. Looks like it will remain speculative (i.e. ding dong for some time), unless there's another fresh lead, besides the IR.
Dear Readers,
Price of Star Cruises rises to Sgd 0.50 or above would not be imposible within 2007. I hold my units till it reachs the above target price.
Credit Suisse raised their target price on the stock 40% from 20 U.S. cents to 28 U.S. cents.
Deutsche Bank also upgraded Star Cruises' stock from a "hold" to a "buy," and raised their target price to 23 U.S. cents per share from 17 U.S. cents.
"In our view, this land-based resort offers Star Cruises higher ROI and complements existing cruise businesses," the bank said.

From what I see from the past charts, TA cannot be applied to this counter. Maybe because it pricing can be easily manipulated. GA might works well for this counter since IR is the talk of the town nowadays. On a personal note, I won't touch this counter firstly, it is denominated in US dollars which I am quite bearish, and secondly, I wouldn't want to take the risk of being a baby-sitter since the IR news is already out, making this counter prone to big-boys effect.
