D dividend is d cash return to d share holders, after using H progressive earnings to pay out any liabilities along d line. Then d remaining NPAT would be used to gauge how much cash need to be return to d holders, esp when coy dun need so much cash idling ard for cap ops.

In FY08, H + 2H total NPAT was 478.32M. Total cash returned to share holders were H 6cts 2H 32cts, tot 0.38.

In FY 09, H+2H NPAT was declined to 305.657m. Hence, with d decline in profit, coy had to proportionally return less cash to d share holders loh, as d normal expenditure likely variant was not that great. Dun forget d directors fees oh. Pse note 08 tot shares was 1068.092m. Whereas it was now 1070.879m.

For FY2008, i take the dividend of $0.36 multiply with the total shares, i get around the same amount of 413millions dividends paid.

But for FY2009, i take the dividend of $0.26 multiply with the total shares, i only get around 200millions+.

Sadly i can't make it to the AGM.

For the "cash flow statement" in the SGX annual report 2009, i saw the dividends paid for year 2009 is about 420 millions, which is more as compared to year 2008's 413 millions.  It should be correct.

I was a little short-sighted and did not see further.

It should be correct because the $420millions paid have not factor in the 'lower' dividend pay-out of $0.155 later this month, after the AGM/EGM, as the annual report of the cash flow statement is till the financial year date of 30th June 2009.  So this $420 millions is for dividends paid from 1st July 2008 to 30th June 2009.

This explains why even though we're only going to get $0.26 per share dividends for year 2009, while having $0.38 per share for last year 2008, and yet having dividends spending slightly more this financial year 2009.

Any of the seniors can help me on this one below? Thanks.

I just got a copy of the annual report, and under the "cash flow statement", i saw the dividends paid for year 2009 is about 420 millions, which is more as compared to year 2008's 413 millions.

Even though we're only getting $0.26 per share dividends this year 2009, while having $0.385 per share last year 2008, but why do the report shows more spending on dividends on year 2009 than 2008??

Anyone can enlighten me?? Thanks.

Hello TanakaF,

Regards to your question below, the $0.155 dividend is only for the year-end (4th quarter) dividend.  But if you total all the 4 quarters dividends, you should get $0.26 for the full financial year of 2009.

I just got a copy of the annual report, and under the "cash flow statement", i saw the dividends paid for year 2009 is about 420 millions, which is more as compared to year 2008's 413 millions.

Hi, this question coming from a newbie. May I know where to check for any company's dividends? I check CNA website and it lists SGX as SGD0.155, not SGC0.26. Am I looking at the wrong place? Can someone advise/correct me? Thank in advance.

SGX signs network connectivity deal with British firm

British-based telecom firm Cable & Wireless Worldwide has signed a Network Connectivity Agreement with Singapore Exchange.

The agreement enables financial services customers of Cable & Wireless to get access to SGX's securities and derivatives market data.

This means that global financial traders, brokers and investment firms will be able to subscribe to SGX's market data services and receive the information they need in real time via Cable & Wireless’ network.

SGX Vice President for Sales and Relationship Management, Joyce Tan says this partnership builds on the Securities Market Direct Feed that was launched in April, which offers a 60 percent reduction in latency to benefit high-velocity and algorithmic traders.

Over the last two years, Cable & Wireless says it has invested more than 200 million US dollars to expand its network infrastructure and significantly grow its portfolio across Asia.
