My goodness.... anybody saw the last page of the Straits Times today?

There are ZERO advertisements on that page.

The last page is the Finance/Business section of the paper and usually there are big companies advertising there.

Anybody notice that the thickness of the newspapers these days are getting very thin??

Is it lack of newsworthy articles or lack of advertising?

1 lot is $190... meaning to say, with current price of $3.14, if you bought SPH with price above $3.33 , you have nothing to cheer than buying now.

BUT, you did have a chance to buy last 2 months at low of $3.18, so those people who got between $3.18-$3.33 are so called "profits" at this point of time...

Yes, I've notice it too. I think this mgmt have seen it coming, hence, they've increased the print price and halted pay rise and control the operating cost. The softening of commodities and crude oil price also helps. Importantly, current trading price already take into account what's coming next year and beyond. I think investors should have a sense of confident on this counter for middle to long term.

I think both the advertisement and jobs column getting lesser...so i think the earning going forward is bad for this counter and of couse the main thing it show that Singapore is not doing  well also.

Next year will be even worse!!!i have been hearing pay cut from ppl around me..some as much as 30%...i find is hard to believe, but there are definitely some dishonest boss who are doing well and who are out to profit from this episode...personnally have yet to cut, last year was doing very well, hope my associate not so much effected by this crsies and i need have to do any cost measure..all my guys are hardworking and mostly honest..they have been with me for ages....my construction line is still doing fine..

Well, this man "took pains" to explain the rationale behind his purchase of the counter and what else to ask for, his good attitude? He may not be 100% right but which human beings on earth is?

Haha. The decision still lies on each and every investors to be made depending on his priority and strategy but, how wrong can his decision be at this moment of time as compare to other counters with the same investment profile?

you are absolutely right, the past history dividend is a guideline, but, it will not be too "far off"... "Usually" before the dividend paidout, the price will spike up, meaning to say, I would definitely want to see SPH at least $3.60-$3.80 next year April before the dividend released. Just like it was $3.18 in October, come to dividend released, it was up all the way to $3.61...  same thing will happen...

as I said, I treat this as Time Deposit investment, of course, some people might say, my KXD, Jade, or StraitsAsia, whatsoever, 5 years later will be blar blar blar, even better than SPH returns,  but blue chip is a blue chip, don't mix with those high risk high gain, that is belong to other categories, which in my portfolio too.. so, diviserfy is a key word here.

Take out the special div - about 0.10, and the yield is about 5%. Still good.

this counter not need to monitor every day, once you bought it, just put it aside...

this is the dividend history for the past few years based on $3.13. Well of course, the payout will be lesser next  year (as they claimed before)...

highlighted in green is the dividend yields for particular year, counting year 2002 until 2008.

Of course if you bought other counters at year 2002, say Cosco, Parkway, Golden Agriculture, the return might made you ki siao.. well, portfolio must be diversify.. cheers.

But you should not shout arrogantly the way you did,

we should shout politely mah.

Anyway, better don't hope for sph to drop down further. Better hope for it to start playing catch-up for a strong rebound next week(otherblue chips oredi rebounded way above it's low but this sph still very near it's 52-week low) Although I bought at $3.12 recent all-time low but must spare a thought for those people that bought at above $3.30 to $3.40, if price drops further, they will be very ..............
