DBS report on KS Energy.
Mr Kris Wiluan, KS Energy Chairman, spoke to reporters at the Reuters Global Energy Summit in S'pore yesterday that the group:
1) intends to add two onshore/offshore drilling rigs per year, costing US$20m to US$200m each, so as to take advantage of the still booming oil services sector. These rigs can be newly built or bought from the secondary market,
2) may move into deepwater drilling services in the longer term, so as to support steady growth,
3) may take stakes in firms with an expanding offshore fleet if such opportunities did arise,
4) are positive on the outlook of offshore exploration activities, as day charter rates are expected to remain high enough to offset higher prices for rigs.
This news reinforces KS Energy's confidence in the group's improving prospects. Following the acquisition of Atlantic Oilfield Services (AOS) in mid-'07 that give the group access to around 300 practising industry professionals, we have highlighted on several occasions our expectation for KS Energy to expand its business through time charter of majority owned land rigs and jackup rigs. Still, we believe that one of the leading indicator of KS Energy's purchase of more assets will rest on its success in offloading previously jointly-owned non-core assets in the market to raise the much needed cash to fund further acquisition.
We expect KS Energy's subsequent quarters in '08 to be significantly stronger than 1Q08, as KS Energy has already deployed at least one wholly-owned land rig and a jackup rig that will contribute significantly starting 2Q08. As a recap, KS Energy reported 107% yoy growth in net profit in 1Q08. KS Energy also has a 50%-owned jackup rig under construction in the Middle East, and we expect the back-to-back time charter contract for this new rig to be announced before mid-'09.
We reiterate that KS Energy is an undervalued play in the marine sector, trading at 7.6x recurring FY08 PE (financial year ended Dec) vs. its 51%-owned listed subsidiary Aqua-Terra's, a pure play distributor, 7.5x FY08 PE (financial year ended Dec). We expect around 70% of KS Energy's net profit in FY08 to come from long-term chartering income, which deserves better share price valuation due to significantly higher profit margin and better earnings visibility, as compared to a pure play distributor.
There is no change to our fair value of $3.00, using 8x FY08 PE for its distribution business, and 15x FY08 PE for chartering business involving mainly land rigs and jackup rigs. Our current recurring net profit estimate is $68m for FY08. We are maintaining our BUY rating on KS Energy, which is trading at undemanding valuation.

Technical Analysis
Laggard but attractive oil & gas plays
KS Energy. The company supplies parts and equipment to various oil
majors and rig operators. It reported a 107% rise in net profit for 1Q08. The
price chart shows strong accumulation and superior relative strength to the
FSSTI, both of which are reasons to go long on the stock. Two days ago,
there was a surge in volume to 7m shares. The pullback since then has been
shallow. The 20-day moving average (ma) has also just crossed above the
50-day ma. Six months ago, the 20-day ma cut below the 50-day ma at
$1.35 and the stock fell to a low of $1.35. This time, we reckon that the
moving average crossover will signal an upside reversal. Based on the chart
formations, we project an upside of $2.60 over the next one month.

ok got some liao...

Some good results for KS Energy.
This share is not going back to its prime of $4.20 anytime soon.
Its a good counter with solid profitable track record. If u stuck with it, close shop and come back again in 2-3years time. Maybe it will regain when market recovers.
To me, I think its a much better counter than Sembmar (due to its forex trading loss). But somehow it still keeps it balance pretty well, maybe becos Temasek back it up.
Other than that, KS is still a good counter for long term.
think the cause of this are as below:
1) Profit taking since it rise s so high in short term.
2) no BBs playing this counter.
3) Again maybe BBs pushing price low to accumlate and try to get contranians out while they cut losses.
4) Not in a highlight cos now alot of ppl will seee high vol then they select the plays...
Hope this help though may not be the reasons.......... Any other bros have comments... I am also learning....
cheers

can anyone tell me wat happen to this counter. after a sudden surge up last week, then now keep dropping...arr... ????
KS Energy said it has secured a US$175 million deal to rent out an offshore rig to an oil exploration firm for up to 4 years, confirming an earlier Reuters report.
"The KS MedStar-1 will serve drilling activities in the Mediterranean Sea for a firm contract period of 3 years plus a renewal option for one year," the company said in a statement.
The charter contract for the jackup rig is valued at US$130 million for the first 3 years and at US$175.2 million if the one-year option is exercised, the statement said, without naming the oil firm.
A company source had told Reuters earlier that the rig deal would be worth over US$200 million.
KS Energy last traded at $1.63, valuing the company at about US$300 million.
The charter deal would be the first for KS Energy, which embarked into the offshore oil services business in May last year when it acquired Norway-based Atlantic Oilfield Services. Oil firms are boosting exploration efforts to tap record crude prices.
KS Energy now has a combined fleet of about 20 onshore and offshore rigs, with one jackup rig under construction at the MIS Shipyard in the Middle East.
