hahah...we are all here to learn from one another, so the decision of not discussing futher is the right one since one is not familiar with Eco Water and the other is not familiar with both Eco Water and Asia Power!!

Stockking, I'm not vested in AP. Since this is not a thread on Eco Water and you're not familiar with its business, no point discussing further with you.

oh Nostradamus, I see....then all should be find if that is how we defined slow down....I believe then that AP strategy is the right one and AP should be a lot more stronger and larger in few years time!! Let wait for the result and see if my forecast on path.

Nostradamus, take a look at Asia Power last year full year report and you will know how profitable thier Hydropower plant are compared to thier other businesses.

Since you are not vested in Eco Water (and I suppose u are not vested in AP too since don't seem to know their business well), and only raise the question after reading that announcement. It makes no sense to discuss with u futher.

Stoccking, I'm not vested in Eco Water. I read its profit warning and wondered if Asia Power will be adversely affected. How much profit is AP making from hydro power? What's the outlook? It'll be great if you can answer these questions.

BullRun, you said electric power had kept developing at a double-digit growth rate over the past four years. What were the growth rates each year for the past 4 years? If the growth rate last year is positive but lower than the previous year, then there's a slow down.

recommendation is keep out of this counter. i understand this counter is good but with such low/no volume, how to invest. very risky trade

"BEIJING, April 28 -- Yangtze Power Co. said Wednesday its first-quarter earnings rose 18 percent, buoyed by higher electricity prices."

Look like hydro power plant is really very profitable. Together with the electricity price increase in May -July, my guess AP direction is the right one.

Nostradamus, share your thoughts. Thanks.

China's electric power had kept developing at a double-digit growth rate over the past four years, which was higher than the growth pace of the country's GDP.

Is demand up or down....find the answer for yourself!

The supply of hydropower can be affected by a lack of water in reservoirs. The dry winter has forced hydro plants to reduce the electricity output. When water levels fall to one-third of what they are in summer, there will be a shortage of power output.

No need to guess....just need to do some research and you will know the answer!!  The truth can be found easily!!

"The electricity consumption in China amounted to 650.5 billion kwh in the first four months this year, up 16.1 percent year-on-year, according to the State Electric Power Regulatory Commission Thursday. "

Nostradamus and others.....anyone know the answers to my questions....if hydro power plant is really not going to be that profitable as what I understand earlier, I may want to dispose my AP.

Nostradamus,

I didn't follow Eco Water but I'm vested heavily in AP and sitting on good profit. Hence, your question make me do a quick research in EW. If you have been following EW, please help to provide more information.

In that announcement, it was mentioned that as a result of the lower profit margin in their waste water treatment projects....the company is unlikely to be profitable.....

...." group announcement on 10 April 2006 highlighted that certain matter that could affect the group's ability  to continue as a going concern." .....

So I believe the company need to conserve capital and hence decided to disposal off their hydro project that is not their core business.

Also noticed that EW make a couple more investments recently including a offshore company.  They are trying very hard to go into other business due to the poor profit margin in their core business. Have they over invested?

Do they  have the experience to run a hydro-power plant? Is their power plant operating right now or are they still in the process of building it? Where is their power plant located? EW made losses last year too....is the hydro-power plant business causing them to make those losses last year?

May be, AP can grab this opportunity to buy over their project at lower price to further expand their business!!
