All good ideas. AK adds one more, dun torture the horses at the race course. Yah, pse also write to SPCA! Wat else, yah, any gaming machines at club houses n recreational centres, must be removed as well. Just can't imagine, cleaning aunties r d participants. God bless.

Queues form despite stoppage
Many say they take free rides to Sentosa, not to visit the casino

DESPITE widespread media coverage that the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) shuttle services had stopped running, Singaporeans still turned up at pick-up points yesterday in the hope of getting a free ride to the integrated resort.
Queues were seen in Ang Mo Kio and Bedok, despite signs that said the service had been terminated. Up to 20 people were waiting at a bus stop in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 yesterday at 3pm. When told the shuttle bus was no longer in operation, they reacted with surprise.
Said mechanic T.M. Tan, 47, in Mandarin:
'How are we supposed to get there now? So troublesome.'
He just wanted to go SENTOSA ?
The shuttle service had been in operation since June, serving 19 locations across the island 15 to 33 times a day.
It had been ferrying an average of 2,500 passengers daily and was expected to take a crowd of up to 4,000 over the Hari Raya weekend.
The shuttle service ceased operations immediately on Friday afternoon after a directive from the Casino Regulatory Authority.

From today's Straits Times: "There have been concerns that the shuttle services were making it too convenient for heartlanders to go to the IR to gamble." Mama, you are right. They should also remove all 4D/Toto/Football/Formula 1 betting outlets near our shooping malls/markets/etc. It's too convenient for everyone (not just heartlanders) to gamble. |

Since I can affort $100, transport charges is not an issue. If I want to visit casino, I will still go regardless of any free transport or not. To me, free transport to Sentosa is a benefit for Singaporean, especially the retirees who can spend time with grandchildren visiting Sentosa or with their retired buddies. With more people roaming at Sentosa is good right and the drivers can keep their jobs. If they worry about gambling, I think the Singapore Pools are located too near and convenient at all housing estates. So are we going to shift the Singapore Pools to some ulu place?? I am not well-educated, just a retiree, I hope someone who can write well, please write to the press hoping the authority will review the free transport to Sentosa. |
