OIR BITES | HANKORE ENVIRONMENT TECH GROUP LTD
  HIGHLIGHTS FROM MANAGEMENT MEETING
  31 Jul 2013
We recently met up with the management of HanKore Environment Tech Group Ltd (HanKore) and here are the key take-aways.
  Business overview
- HanKore’s core business comprises wastewater treatment, water recycling, water supply and sludge treatment. As of 31 Mar 13, the group has invested in a total of 11 large-scale municipal BOT (“Build-Operate-Transfer”) and TOT (“Transfer-Operate-Transfer”) water treatment projects in Beijing, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shaanxi and Henan. The total contracted capacity is 1.57m tons/day.
  Financial summary (FY12 annual report)
- FY12 revenue of RMB245m (up 25% YoY) consists of 70% Water Tariff component and 30% construction services from BOT.
- Gross profit increased over 300% YoY to RMB119m in FY12 from RMB29m in FY11.
- Net profit was higher at RMB103m in FY12 versus a loss of RMB407m in FY11. The improvement is mainly due to lower operating expenses that decreased 96% to RMB17m from RMB388m after once-off impairment losses were recognised in FY11.
Business highlights
- HanKore is a one-stop recycling solutions provider with projects that are strategically located. Management indicates that its projects are situated in areas with strong demand as projected by the 12th five-year plan with good prospects of expansion and enhanced profitability.
- HanKore generates a larger percentage of revenue from water charges rather than construction. Hence, it enjoys stable and recurring revenue streams.
  Recent developments
- S$50m was raised on 26 Jul 13 through issuance of “Series 001 Notes” at 7.50 per cent fixed rate pursuant to its Multicurrency Medium Term Note Programme.
- 293.6m new ordinary shares were issued at S$0.05 per Placement Share to Alan Wang Yu Huei on 18 Jul 13. The price represents a 1% discount to the VWAP of S$0.0505 on 17 July 2013. The number of shares represent 6.09% of the enlarged capital after the Placement.
  Key valuation metrics versus peers
  -  OIR currently does not have a rating on HanKore.
I never truely agree with all the experts that shorting is an effective and healthy way of market self regulatory activities. A more effective way is to implement 'circuit' to stop excessive price fluctuation daily. Buying ultimately means one will end up owning an asset except for contra players while shorting even if borrowing scripts is purely gambling in nature as one will never end up owning any asset. In buying, one will at most lose all the money if the company collapsed and the value of the shares is zero but the return can be in excess of 100% or multi-fold if the company enjoy very good growth and market positive. On the other hand, shorting risks limitless loss if the trend goes against one while the gain is limited to the maximum of the share price at point of sales assuming if the company collapsed and shares turn worthless. You can work out the odds. Intraday shorts that are covered by end of day may be safer though. Making money is possible if one has insider information or very shrewd in analysing and timing and of course enjoying razor thin commission rate.
Anyway, personally, shorting to me is to wish someone lose or make less money and you profit from it while buying is to wish that share price will rise and all make more money except for those who shorts....I rather make money being the later - a buyer.

Technically oversold and at support level. Hankore is not so easy to predict these days given the corporate restructuring of of major shareholders, funds raising and unexplainable trading volume that there are some forces behind to control its price movement. Not for short term trade. Long term trend is definitely upwards biased. Strongly suggest to avoid any shorting as any positive news will result in a spike in price. I received a call today from a finance house that they have upgraded Hankore and raised the limit of the loan amount. I suppose more finance houses and trading houses will start to do likewise or accept Hankore to be pledged as collateral for share financing.
