Update by Straits Asia Resources Limited on the recent conveyor failure at the Group’s
Jembayan Operation.

Line 1 has not been affected by the incident and has resumed full operation on 14 October
2009. The conveyor structure and jetty of Line 2 cannot be repaired and will be dismantled. The two crushing units that were feeding Line 2 are still fully functional and can continue to supply product coal for alternative loading arrangements.

Not a supporter of SAR but this is only conveyor belt broken mah, this type of thing can be rebuilt in a month or two if they have the right people to do it, in China or India matter of days.  Ask the army engineering corp and they will tell you a matter of hours...Loaded more at support level, make a few cents also happy.

Looks like support is very strong at $2.  The company seems to have many staunch supporters even in the face of troubles.  Do not forget about them when it is dividend paying time!

13-10-2009  UPDATE 1-Straits Asia upbeat on meeting 2009 coal output
(Adds details) JAKARTA, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Singapore-listed coal miner Straits Asia is still optimistic about meeting its coal output target of 9 million tonnes this year despite the collapse of a new loading facility at its mine in Indonesia, a company official told Reuters on Tuesday. The firm said last week that a new coal loading facility at its Jembayan mine in Indonesia's East Kalimantan province has collapsed due to heavy rains. [ID:nSIN326650] Straits Asia was looking at some options to boost output after the collapse, including upgrading capacity at its existing loading facility to between 6.5-7 million tonnes from 5.5 million tonnes annually, Graeme Tivey, Straits Asia's chief financial officer said. The firm was also looking at the possibility of loading some of the coal via neighbouring miners, as well as buying the fuel from other sources to meet demand from customers, Tivey said. "All of those things together, can get us out of the problem while we rebuild the loading facility," Tivey told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of the Coaltrans 3rd Coal Mining Operations and Economics in Jakarta.

This is merely a logistic issue, the coal are carried out of the mines by dumper trucks to the collection point where the conveyor starts, with this out of action, the trucks can dump straight on to the barge right? Not so convenient only due to narrow roads leads to the river banks.

stop out at 203 for mere gain..this one very unfortunate,,maybe luck is turning for it already..

thong is not so simple, i know we can use pail to carry water fr the reservoir, pail by pail, but with a pipng and pump, it would be better, right???

faster, ..by truck to transport , is as gd as pail by pail...

Caught in the rain

Jembayan facility damaged by rain.

several days has dealt Straits Asia Resources Ltd (SAR) a setback. Its

new loading facilities at the Jembayan mine, which were just commissioned

this year, have been damaged as heavy rainfall led to a failure of its foundation

structure. Although the extent and impact of the damage have yet to be

ascertained, the group has warned that no further loading will be possible

from this facility for at least some time. We expect production volume to

be hurt as a consequence. The facilities are insured against business

interruptions and we expect SAR to claim against these damages.Continuous rain over the past

doubt cast a shadow over SAR's expansion plans. The group had originally

planned to raise Jembayan's output from 5.5m tonnes in FY08 to 7m tonnes

in FY09 with the help of the enhanced capacity. With the destruction of its

new facility, we have cut our projections to 5.8mt. Meanwhile, SAR will

seek alternatives to boost its output via access from neighbouring mines.

We understand that the latest damage merely cripples the transportation

of coal from mine to barge. Actual production at its mines remains on

original loading facilities have withstood the rain. Operations continue to

run normally both at Jembayan's original facilities (SAR operates two loading

operations mitigates the negative impact brought on by the latest damages

and also provides support to our projections.. On a comforting note, SAR's

to mining operations in the event of persistent rain and (ii) translation losses

from a weakening USD. We downgrade SAR to
