IreneL, the fact that you are on the forum at this time probably means that you have online access at home... just ensure it is secured... So, all you need to do is to sign up a online account with your current remiser...
IreneL, as long as you setup a secured network at home, it should be quite safe. A secured network means a network in which your neighbour could not simply scan and log-on. Best still, it does not display the network name when others do a scanning. A lot more freedom when you do it on your own. Remisers get a cut from your online trades and therefore he/she would still send you reports for your reading pleasure. Anyway, you are entitled to read all reports that particular broking house have online.
It is quite easy to set up a wireless network at home.
Hi shplayer
Dont worry. I was not offended.
I have in fact been thinking about the ways and means of trading online. The only misgiving I had about it is the web's security. You are right that brokerage fee is way too high with the STI and there are times I really feel the pinch, paying the broker for just using his fingers to key in my instructions.
no news, lost support, accelerate by today poor sentiment, expediate to previous low sooner.
risk is high to enter now, testing the support at 0.86.
IreneL,
Sorry, no offence meant.
Cashiertan,
I was referring to trading options on the SGX. Certainly, other bourses will have different trading costs.
Good luck with your 'foreign investment' ventures.
Shplayer,
Can u tell me why should i pay 0.25-0.33 to brokers for comm which he did nothing when i can just pay USD6 for every transaction regardless of size when i buy US stocks. That is one of the reason i am exiting STI.
Hi shplayer
Many thanks. But I have "retired" as of last August. Even before retiring, I usually instructed my broker before flying. And no, I dont monitor stocks during office hours. Its unprofessional.
I still do a bit of travelling but for missionary work.
ireneL
If you are going to monitor stocks during office hours, you may as well trade online......Advantages:
save comm - buy/sell cost about 0.65% both ways i.e. about 0.33% to buy and 0.33% to sell.
no need to depend on brokers to excute your trades, iOCBC will even alert you by sms when orders are submitted and filled
can do your own queuing to Buy/Sell.
Hi michaeltay
Just some info with regards to watching your share price while away. I usually texted my broker a day before flying to sell a certain counter at a certain price range. And then I either text or call him to confirm the transaction, or I'll ask him to do the confirmation.
Good luck
Wow thats cool.. watching while working. Lets hope tmr will be a gd day which I doubt.. Gd luck!
please do not tell my boss.. ha ha.. Basically, I can watch the stocks almost every working day from 8.00 am to 5.30 pm.. and I go home on time at 5.30pm. I do not work overtime, and I do not work on weekend.. But hey, I complete my job, and I show my output with good results, so they can't stop me for just "refreshing" my stocks screen once in a while, right? heee...
u r rite jack! Let hope this counters will work despite the inpending correction.. how close r u in monitoring the share prices? Do u just sit the whole day watching them? I do read yr postings. I can only be on in the ist half of the morning tmr aft which I will need to go work...

Wow... 30 lots.. you're quite heavily vested in this counter.
The share price seems to be slipping. I am still stuck with 30lots since before May06! Cant wait for the price to go up.

It will issue up to US$30 mln worth of three-year convertible notes to fund new R&D programs as well as accelerate clinical trials for its drug-eluting stents.
US-based Granite Global Ventures has committed to subscribe to an initial US$15 mln worth of notes by Nov 30 and a further US$5 mln 120 days later. Upon full conversion of the notes, Granite will hold a 20% stake in Biosensors.
"The additional capital, along with the business network of Granite will enable us to pursue our plans more aggressively and root ourselves more firmly in the area of biodegradable and polymer-free drug-eluting stents," Biosensors president Kee Lock Chua said.
Agree that "news" affect this counter as I've noticed.
However since biz is in the medical field and there are not many competitors in their core biz, counter is good to hold for the mid-long term.
So take heart all who have bought into Biosensors.
