Thanks for the details. get to understand more liao. :)
Lets say if im holding cosco at abt $1.26, is it good time to acc more for the short-mid term? as i see most bad news for this quarter has been release. It should be a matter of time before it start moving again.
Yes, I fully support you! How could a giant like Cosco lose out to a small fly like Yang Zi Jiang?! What a shame!! Sack the CEO!
by 19th of Nov 2009, BDI broke record and climbed up to 4661 from its' bottom 800 in 2008.
but the market response is disappointing.but I still believe Coscorp will soar and surpass Yangzijing
sooner or later!

BDI - Baltic Dry Index
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) is a number issued daily by the London-based Baltic Exchange. Not restricted to Baltic Sea countries, the Index tracks worldwide international shipping prices of various dry bulk cargoes.
The index provides "an assessment of the price of moving the major raw materials by sea. Taking in 26 shipping routes measured on a timecharter and voyage basis, the index covers Handymax, Panamax, and Capesize dry bulk carriers carrying a range of commodities including coal, iron ore and grain."

vested $1.13
reasons :
1) baltic dry index is up..
2) substantial shareholder up his stake
3) how can yangzijiang be more expensive than COSCO??????????
Agree with your comment "when a company make $$$ or ve positive news, analysts will recommend "buy", but the "buy" price, being current, has already factored in the good news liao. company lose $$$ or ve bad news, all recommend sell".
While others are selling based on analyst recommenations, this is the time when people start accumulating at low prices. Look how COSCO has jumped from around $1 to $1.14 and also how Yangzjiang has also moved up to $1.15 ; even surpassing COSCO price !!! As Yangzijiang move up COSCO price is also being pushed up. VOlumes are also high.
Yangzijiang is a much smaller niche shipbuilder compared to COSCO. So when the shipbuilding and shipping industries turnaround as the economy picks up COSCO price will move evenfaster and leapfrog ahead of Yangzijiang. How high did COSCO hit and how high did Yangzijiang reached in the past?

dunno how and where they come out w the target price, ranging from 21cents to 1.05.
not specifically referring to cosco, but when a company make $$$ or ve positive news, analysts will recommend "buy", but the "buy" price, being current, has already factored in the good news liao.
company lose $$$ or ve bad news, all recommend sell.
of course, we all know the consequence of trading like tis.
Shipping and ship building may be in rough seas but is entirely in a different industry from Chartered. Thus, the business cycles are different. One day when economy picks up the company will be another hot favourite. Buy when cheap to hold long term. When analysts recommend sell but some others are also accumulating at cheap prices. Train as a means of transport once loss its sparkle and yet Warren Buffett recently invested in this industry substantially. There must be reasons for others to accumulate shipping and shipbuilding counters at this price level when you see a bigger picture and longer horizon.
