Asian stock markets were mostly higher on Friday with Australia hitting a fresh five year high, as Chinese growth data for the third quarter pointed toward stabilization in the region's largest economy.
The headline gross domestic product data came out at 7.8% for the most recent quarter, accelerating from the 7.5% growth in the second quarter. It matched the median forecast of 18 economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal.
Early in the summer, signs of a slowdown along with a liquidity crunch in June, damaged sentiment toward China. In more recent months, there has been a pickup in economic data, suggesting that the economy could be recovering.

The dollar gained against other major currencies Friday in Asia, as a selloff in response to expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve will keep its easing policy in place appeared to have run its course for now.
Such concerns had increased as the U.S. fiscal stalemate shut down the government, with Congress narrowly averting a debt default Wednesday.
With selling pressure on the dollar having eased for now, the market's focus has shifted away from the U.S. fiscal crisis, which dictated trading in recent weeks.
Data showing China's growth accelerated in the third quarter also soothed fears over sharper slowdown in the global economy.
China's gross domestic product grew 7.8%, as expected, from a year earlier, according data from the National Bureau of Statistics released Friday. That was faster than 7.7% growth in the first quarter and 7.5% in the second.
" A slew of data confirms that the Chinese economy has performed well compared with the pessimistic view that once prevailed," said Marito Ueda, managing director at FX Prime Corp. " Although China faces plenty of domestic problems, it's likely the world's second largest-economy will avoid a hard landing."

Wonder where is that " master" ..said HK will go to 4cts and is a lousy s-chip. Maybe dat fella smarter than me la but to bet against Simon Cheong or Alan or Han..how to fight?

no worries la..we are in good company...with Simon Cheong (SG's number 40th in rich list) , Alan Wang (cant find in forbes ..up and coming when HK hits 50cts), Remisier kingHan Seng juan.. wah.. and cccx and share7.. 6cts no need to see liao la. Onwards to 8 then by end of the year to hit past 10. swee swee.

Yea I am queuing at 7.1cents and 6.9cents. But a lot more at 6.9cents. Hope to get some. I can't see time and sales cos I am using ipad. Always on the move nowadays..
