SINGAPORE, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Shares of heart stent maker Biosensors International (BIOS.SI: Quote, Profile , Research) rose as much as 4.9 percent to a 3-month high of S$0.85 with 6.7 million shares traded on market rumors that the company may soon gain approval to sell its lucrative drug-eluting heart stents to the European market, dealers said.
"There is speculation that the approval mark will come in soon, I suspect that's why the share price is rising," said a local dealer.
Since April 2005, Biosensors had been waiting to receive the CE Mark of European regulatory approval for its BioMatrix drug-eluting heart stent. The certification is required for the company to sell the product in Europe.
Biosensors's President Chua Kee Lock told Reuters in an interview last month that he could not predict when the approval would be granted, but "the list of questions (the European authorities) are asking is getting shorter and shorter". [ID:nSIN288776]
