Singapore Airlines Ltd  announced that the company recorded a 1.0% year-on-year decline in system wide passenger carriage while capacity grew by 5.4% in February 2011. As a result, passenger load factor declined by 4.8 percentage points to 75.1%. The number of passengers carried increased by 0.6% over the same month last year to 1.27 million. Overall cargo traffic improved by 3.6% while cargo capacity increased by 10.1%. This led to a drop in cargo load factor of 3.8 percentage points compared to the same month last year.

Singapore Airlines, the world's second-biggest carrier by market value, filled 66.9% of the space available on its planes for passengers and cargo in February, down from January and the same period a year ago. The Singapore flag carrier had reported a load factor of 67.9% for January and 71.4% in February 2010. SIA filled 75.1% of its seats last month, while its cargo load factor was 61.8%.

The white haired ceo once comments in GM that the price to purchase fuel was not hedge. the additional cost would pass to the consumer meaning those passenger paying for the travel. tiger airway was one of the  competitor for SIA.
I heard they already increase the price 3 times up to date. news  is of japan chemical explosion. I doubt most  people will  choose to stay at home with all wall openings shut than inhaling unnecessary chemical.
worry on air pollution more than travel destination. Remember sars outbreak few years ago? See few years ago TA will provide some hints.
my personal thought.
Hope it can fly up from here ..

Maintain Outperform with Target Price $17
Our flag carrier tumbled 10.8% in 2011, more than twice the STI Index which only fell 5.0% over the same period.  For the past few days, the stock found its support at around $13.50, a level which was tested a few times in late 2009 and early 2010. The direction of the SIA is a game of tug-of-war between the rising oil prices and the global economic recovery. The company is expected to release its February operating figures later today.
Macquarie is pleased to list the following new Singapore Airlines warrant this morning:
Code Name Type Expiry Exercise Price
NS9W SIA MBL eCW110803 Call 03-Aug-11 13.80
Yesterday, Macquarie Research Equities reiterated its outperform rating on SIA and adjusted its target price marginally lower to $17 from $17.80.
FY3/12 unlikely to be as positive but already priced in
MRE do not expect FY3/12 to be as strong as FY3/11 with the outlook being impacted by slower passenger growth and higher jet fuel prices however MRE aren’t expecting a terrible year either. Singapore Airlines is currently trading on FY3/12E Price-to-Book of 1.1x, which is below the mid-range of the company’s historic long term trading band of between 1.0-1.5x PBR. MRE thinks current valuations have more than priced in the earnings decline expected in FY3/12E.
Jet fuel prices to remain an overhang on the sector in the near-term
Macquarie’s commodities team has revised their jet fuel price assumptions, increasing 2011 and 1H 2012 prices. This has had a negative impact on FY12E EPS estimates for the company.
Fuel surcharges don’t change the supply/demand dynamics
Singapore Airlines will raise another round of jet fuel surcharge increases effective from 17 March. This should ensure the company at least recoups some of its margins from the higher jet fuel costs however given the recent developments in the Middle East, we think that jet fuel prices are no longer purely a function of supply/demand but being dictated by external factors, and hence could have an impact on demand dynamics.

Delta tops the world's most admired airlines
AFP Relax  –  Fri, Mar 4, 2011 10:01 PM SGT
Delta Air Lines has been voted the world's " most admired airline" by
Fortune magazine, managing to push the much-acclaimed Singapore Airlines into second place.
The award, announced March 3, means that Delta came out top in a string of assessments including social responsibility and quality of product, as well as business-related criteria such as quality of management and global competitiveness.
Delta has moved steadily up the ranks over the past four years to reach top spot, which was awarded to Singapore Airlines last year -- the airline's boss Richard Anderson described the award as a " remarkable achievement" in a note to staff.
Other airlines in the top ten included major international carriers such as Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, Cathay Pacific Airways, Qantas, British Airways and ANA.
Despite the award, a quick look at the figures show some improvements to be made for Delta.
Although the company topped its peers for social responsibility, quality of management and global competitiveness (among others), it was lower placed in other areas, most notably quality of products/services where it scored a relatively low ranking in 7th.
That criteria was led by (you guessed it) Singapore Airlines, with Air France/KLM in second place, Cathay Pacific in third and Lufthansa fourth.
The world's most admired airlines:
1       Delta Air Lines
2       Singapore Airlines
3       Southwest Airlines
4       Lufthansa Group
5       Air France-KLM Group
6       Cathay Pacific Airways
