Hi everyone,

I started this topic because I was quite lost at that time. Thanks for all your comments.

I have come to a conclusion that I will continue as a engineer, and part-time trading stocks and FX. Use weekends to improve my knowledge.

Very nice to have such a great forum, a great place to meet different people. I wonder anyone in this forum ever meet up for kopi, and talk cock.... If there is, please inform me.

hahaha... how did a discussion on career turn into one about shorting??

Hey nickng, one question - how much time do you spend looking at your computer screen when you put in a short trade?

Just my point of view here. Whatever strategies you use be a bit flexible :

1. Long term investor need  not be a "die die must hold". But catching the right moment to buy and holding for a longer period and selling when a major crash happens, he makes much more than someone who trades too much. Thus the TA part can help him in the selling part prior to a major crash.

2. When STI was near 3100, most likely there is no buy signal and charts are down. But those who bought back then need not worry even if a crash happens tomorrow.

I should rephrase. Usually not many people make a lot from shorting

"Long" it, if you are a Talent;

"Short" it, if you are an Elite.

Jesse Livermore

He made $3 million in a single day, went bankrupt four times, and was blamed for the crash of 1929. Jesse Livermore tells how he did it.

And while America sank into ten long years of the Great Depression, Livermore went short--and made $100 million.

If one has sold Hotel Props (HPL)

at the high of 6.36 on 5th July 2007
and then covered (bought back) at the low of 3.86 on 17 Aug 2007,

one would have made a neat $2.50 per lot (10 lots=$25000 profit!!!) in a matter of  one 6 weeks!.

So how can shorting not be profitable???

It is only a matter of good timing...Smiley

SHORTING is a shortcut to bankruptcy. TIme frame is just 8 hrs, 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. The odds are against you, with MAS selling one notch above trading price and will buy back one notch below the trading price. So sell now and buy later we actually lost 2 notches, on top of that, the broker's commission.....sigh, don't short lah! If you play contra, at least there is T+3.

I was looking for career oportunities, but end up in shortist forum!!!

But, from own experience, shorting very, very stressful because got time limit. Want to go and pee also must hurry, scared that price suddenly shoot up.

After that, I respect those people who make money shorting.

How they do it?

Use potty, lah!!!

huh??  just like that tikam tikam ?  :  )

I was under the impression that u might have method to ur "madness"  .. ie shorting ...hahaha !

I was thinking that u might be following some indicators ,eg overbought etc of some bluechips/popular counters and when there is bad news, together with the overbought condition , embark on the shorting ..  anticipating the panic and fear factor to help u sail away with the wind ..and the money ....hahaha !

well, whatever ... black cat or white cat , as long as it catches the rat , it is a good cat ...hahaha !

wish u all the best !

well..i shorted COSCO previous and lost BIG time..1k+ biggest loss for SHORTING siah !

well..no trick for shorting..purely based on that particular stock sentiment(like DBS subprime woes, indoensia saga..etc) so any surge is an opportunity for SHORT ! hee..of cos SHORT with eyes open...not like when US Fed Reserve declare rate cut and this burger surge u go and SHORT..asking for trouble right?? hee..the rest pure gut feel..

Let me guess...

By volume and the opening pricing, right?

DBS has relatively high volume today and hit the peak of $20.50 early in the morning. Smiley

Please teach us some of your tricks. I had tried shorting a few time, but always at a loss.

Trading full time is really stressful. This means your only stream of income is at the mercy of the stock market.

I am a great believer of the concept of multiple streams of income.
