That's sounds like what the american government said about the banking system of singapore in 2007.
" It's government monopolised and it doomed to fail and like communism in the financial world.....blah blah blah...."   And 2 yrs down the road they use the similiar system for their failing economy and recover to from the red. Count yr lucky stars we have funny weird unacceptable gov step in the system. Versus your pyschology and use it to yr advantage. HOW?  Use your imagination.
One of  the richest most successful man in Asia is listing here not Hongkong not canada but here.
WHY????

  Hey it's to earn money.

Everyday see " stablization" trades by sponsor. This is not good sign as it means that price is artificially jacked up to make it look good. Stablization trade is allowed here for only a few days. Once this stops, bottoming may occur if there are no change in buying sentiments for this. Saw this before with other IPO's. In fact, don't understand how come this is allowed here. Most other countries do not allow  this at all. |

Wah why so many spiders around the price went down cos sing dollar went up and nobody Banks and Bankers are not all powerful. They only last longer. The last time i remember one man in singapore bankkrupt a 100 yr old bank right LOL. And he is still alive and rich. Check the numbers it's doing fine china's ports growth is 10 to 15 % a YEAR not by weeks or days so why so many guesses? You have pocket aces in texas poker and you want to fold??? let the river come first.
Must have a level playing field.
Transparent, man, transparent.
Let the mkt take its own course and
not somebody to manipulate and control
the share prices. The stabilizing manager is
a bank. Can you win in a poker game if your
opponent is a banker.

Whats the concern here ?
If stabalisation is to  " stop the price from falling to the bottom" ,then,   is good and fair  for those who bought at IPO price.    :)

When will this stabilizing trades discontinue?
Will the investing public get to know when will be
the last date so as not to be caught with their pants

If this  stock trading  above ipo price and if happens to be in time wih  US$  recovery,    then, those who bought at US$ 1.26 below,  will be beneficial.
Hmmmm you buy 1 to max maybe 100 lots or even 1000 lots and fund managers buys 100k to 1 million upwards. KELONG! Sure they allow. You buy 1 million lot of OCBC or DBS day in and day out i think they will also let you kelong too hehehehehe. Lets face it money talks bullshit walks.

Downright kelong by instituitions and SGX allows this  because they want their business.
AnthonyTan ( Date: 31-Mar-2011 14:39) Posted:
I strongly objected to this system. Why does SGX allow it.
Wat the stabilizing manager does, buy/sell in very large
quantities, the investing public does not know. Why create
a false mkt. This stabilizing business should be abolished

HPH ......lai  ..cheong arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
you should be getting your fixed deposit plus interests soon....... less than a month i think.
Below  abstract shows  that during IPOs, the stabalising manager themselves, do the shorting and covering before and after maket..........
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stabilization Activities by Underwriters
after Initial Public Offerings
ABSTRACT
Prior research has assumed that underwriters post a stabilizing bid in the aftermarket.
We find instead that aftermarket activities are less transparent and
include stimulating demand through short covering and restricting supply by
penalizing the f lipping of shares. In more than half of IPOs, a short position of
an average 10.75 percent of shares offered is covered in 22 transactions over
16.6 days in the aftermarket, resulting in a loss of 3.61 percent of underwriting
fees. Underwriters manage price support activities by using a combination of
aftermarket short covering, penalty bids, and the selective use of the overallotment
option.
