I think the Ghost month effect on the stock market is coming true.Market will be very depressed this few weeks due to poor economic situation and fall in retail numbers. Retail numbers are a key indicator of consumerism. If consumerism is down, this means that people are feeling the heat from the crisis.

So, are you going to queue to buy the $8M TOTO?

CWQuah      ( Date: 07-Aug-2008 01:08) Posted:

I'll stick to buying/selling scrips/shares. My chances are slightly better than the Toto odds - provided the 'chng kehs' don't screw me up. Hehe!

Then again, $8m overnight is only a dream for most traders; even for small BBs/syndicates. So take your pick!

Talking abt the month of opening gates - where I used to work, we always performed prayers on the first day of the 7th month for smooth operations.

The one year we missed by one day due to rain, man... it was hell week for the rest of the week. Overtime like mad.

I'm not pantang, but I prefer to remain open to the possibility of forces beyond the explanation of rational science.

Haha...trader88.sg,

U don't need to work in Singapore Pools to know these info. Can read from the net & papers. But I do wish I won that 4D outlet. Think of the commission I can earn from the ordinary folks. People queuing to give u $$$....where to find this kinda job right...Smiley

Elfie,

Things people will do just to stike it rich. Still have many others things peolpe do during their "tour" at cemetery. But the bamboo thingie is the worst of all I thnk. This is not illegal though. The Police can't really do much but only to patrol there.

But "investing" in the entire series...hmmm...if never kena then bang already. People working at Singapore Pools will be happy with their big fat bonus.

Anyone going to that 4D branch at Geylang Lor 25A? Heard that location also not bad. After that can go eat durian...yumyum...Smiley

synnexo. oh so that's what bao-ing means. had thought about something like it before: buy all except the less likely numbers (eg, 1111, 1222 etc), but imagine having to fill in all those numbers on the 4D ticket.

and sigh. the way the market is going, mebbe we should pool our money and open a singapore pools outlet instead. confirm winner.

thank goodness for forex. urgh. see this kind of market, only two words: "puke blood".

ooh yea. those cemetery trips. heard of those before. think they're very xie2 tho. cos going by the laws of karma, you're definitely going to have to pay it back some way.

Hey Elf,

To "bao" means to buy an entire series of a number starting, say, 1...1000, 1001,....1999. So u have 1000 sets of numbers in the 1 series. They will just punt $1.00 each (Idea is to strike the top 3 prizes). Some do exclude those lower striking probability numbers, eg. 1111, 1118 and punt it in other numbers to increase the probability of striking. There are actually books & articles written on higher strike rate on certain series of numbers. I only know the smaller number series tends to have a higher strike rate. U are right on the Toto concept.

Ghost stories...anyone heard stories about hardcore punters going to cemetery tour?

There are organise "tours" to these places & hardcore punters will pray for 4D during the quest. They will bring along offerings & a bamboo stick, a sharp & long one. If the numbers doesn't appear in the winning sets in the next draw, these punters will return & will pray again. But this time round, they will pierce the bamboo stick right into the grave to "punish" the fella & force him to offer the true numbers. Its known to be more accurate when these hardcore punters do that to the deceased. Cruel things people do...

Anyway, tomorrow is the $8m Toto draw.

Remember, got buy got hope. Just punt in some, u never know u could be the next BIG thing...Smiley

there's actually a forum on 4D/Toto. (-_-")....

hey, synnexo, cool insights! what do you mean about bao-ing the smaller numbers? they tend to come out more often?

i've observed one thing about the toto numbers tho: if you want a higher probability of a win, you need to have one set of two numbers in consecutive order in your ticket. (eg, 10, 11. or 21, 22. etcetc).

since it's the ghost month. anyone has any stories to share?

o/w, has everyone gotten their toto tickets yet???? rememberrr...... freak chance is better than no chance!

Ahh...4D / Toto

There is 10,000 sets of numbers in 4D game. However, there are only 23 sets of numbers in each winning draw.

If u buy 1 set of numbers, the probability of u winning is (1/10,000) = 0.01% - definitely not a 50/50 chance. Of course, to a punter, his chance is 50/50, either hit or try again. If u buy 5,000 sets of the 10,000 (illogical), then your chance is 50/50 to strike in the 23 sets of winning numbers. If none of your 5,000 sets of numbers comes out, which is possible, its better off to rear a bird & see if it changes into a rooster. If it does, buy Toto instead.

To narrow down on the "higher" chances of hitting the top 3 prizes, some say go for smaller numbers starting with 1 - 3. What they will do is to "bao" or buy the 1 - 3 series, excluding those lower probability of winning numbers. Some people do "invest" in that manner, but how high is the strike rate then u'll need to find out more yourself.

... such stories .. taiwan, buy $3.50 win $300 K ...such stories keeps the "hope" alive ..free advertisement for pools ...

$150 might be the national average ... the tip of the iceberg .. heavily skewed towards lower income group.. what about those who bet more ,even borrow, and even worst, in debt because of borrowings .. (of course they should have been responsible in the first place) ... but the desperate becomes even more desparate .. is this good for their well being... the pressure ..?

mmmmm ...perhaps ,the Totalisator Board can come up with this novel idea ...maybe they can directly tell the punters that they will be given back their bets , say , on special days ...like Chinese New Year or National Day or yearly or half-yearly ...(on condition that they did not win any big prizes during that period ) ... less, say , 30% off the unwon tickets they present ..the 30% as admin charges and the prize money won , social charge etc .... keeping our No Free Lunch policy intact .....!

Win win for all those who bet and the coffers ..after all they contributed to the pool ...

who knows this idea might be adopted by other nations too in future ... and credit goes to Singapore !  hurray ...hahaha !

Play Responsibly .... can this tag-line be adhered to by the desperates .... sigh ....
