This deal only happened if both parties are angmohs.  Try and see if Temasek is the buyer....it won't be US$2 or US$10 per share.  clear-cut Kelong

Termasek back...Merrill Lynch said No Way for XL Capital to back out of credit guarantees, worth US$31.billion. Another word No write off of  consumers dept against default, reflecting the fragility of the investing banking sector, after Bear Stearns faced a run and was froce to sell it to JPMorgan.

This news throw a deflection on hopes that world credit cruching is easing.....YA..

Thanks Arbitrager for the enlightenment!

Yes JPM seems to have gotten a good deal, from the likes of it. Bear Sterns Prime Brokerage talent adds to JPM's portfolio, not to mention that Bear Sterns has a really nice building too! Who knows, JPM may not have to build that monstrosity over the World Trade Center site which it had bought at a discount. Ha!

Lehman Brothers has the best cash position among the 5 big investment banks, being ML is the lowest.

Today Lehman reported 50% drop of profit for the last quarter and yet they surge 20% in their share price today. So kelong! The Angmo wants that up, that one will go up!

JP paid $2 a share for Bear.

Tonite, jus a few minutes ago Bear trading above $6. Wa! JP make 200% returns in a matter of 2 days. Any possibility many Bear's employees/shareholders are going to be up-in-arms soon (probably a class action lawsuit) over that cheap cheap sale.

Considering that JP don't hold much risk over that Bear buy since all the risky assets are bailout by the FEDS, it's a steal. (Warren Buffett must be angry with Bernanke for not calling him first.)

Cheap cheap good meat... angmo only offer angmo but not to asians like Gic, Temasek, etc.

yes. its not permitted in US due to legality issue. If i am not wrong, its becos ppl have been borrowing the same pool of shares and shorted mulitple times in the mkt causing alot of 'counterfeit" shares. Paulson did mentioned abt this issue during one of his recent speech in front of the Congress.

shorting is not applicable for retail for sure but for insti/ hedge funds i am not sure if they have their means to short. thats y CFD and other derivatives ie warrants, options etc...are available in US for shorting.

in HK, Shorting has to be declared bu i guess singapore is still relatively lax on the regulations.
