He could be trying to profit from the difference between the NTA and stock price
terencefok, perhaps you are right that Peh is trying to stabilise price but he, being a shrewed businessman, will also realise that this is only a short term measure....he alone cannot support the price indefinitely. So, my view is that he sees value in CHH at this price level...note...he just bought 557 lots more of CHH as announced today.
lampard, I don't know the reason Peh is buying back CHH....Put yourself in his position, if you know CHH at this level is good value, won't you do the same? In the recent 3Q 2006 (31 Mar) announcement, they said all listed investments are treated as 'available for sale'. As for insider trading, I think the moratorium period before a major announcement is 30 days. FY 2006 ends 30 June. So, lets see if he carries on his purchases into June.
To the mysterious reader of this thread....you seem to be giving me 'BAD' posts. Perhaps you are the same guy from the CM thread...well, if you don't like my opinions, you don't have to accept it...its a Free blog...the points are free, when I get points deducted for 'BAD' posts, it did not cost me $$. High time you grow up.....but as a fellow stock investor....I do hope you make money from reading my contributions.
He could be trying to keep CHH share price stable in view of the recent sell-off in the shares.
hi shplayer... what are the possible reasons jimmy peh is buying back CHH shares?
If there're major announcements coming up and a big jump in CH price, surely he would be suspected of insider trading....
terencefok,
41..42 cts...not significant difference.....I tend to be conservative and use a lower exchange rate.
lampard,
Dr Tan CB not the driver of this co. Watch out for Jimmy Peh......he is the key to the success of CHH. He has been accumulating shares during the past few weeks.
Besides, I think Temasek has about 6% stake in CHH....not sure if they have divested.
By the way, NTA is 42 cents based on exchange rate 1US$=S$1.58.
terancefok,
yes, investment in CDI at IPO. .....Total investment @ cost is S$1.892 mil.... comparatively small...so I did not mention it.
Thanks.
Chuan Hup still has 8.8 million shares in Communications Design International ( CDI ), representing 10% stake in CDI. They got the shares at IPO price $0.215, today's closing price $0.30, a gain of $748,000. Seems to me that they have good investment managers. PCI is also profitable and pays regular dividends. Maybe they should make a bid for the remaining shares of PCI..juz my 2 cents worth..happy investing.
After divestment last year of its offshore and marine business, CHH is now an investment holding company. It now owns
23.8% of CHO - Chuan Hup Offshore - direct.
28.9% of Scomi Marine Bhd which in turn owns 29.1% of CHO
32.7% of PCI
and some property development in Australia..at last count valued at about $50 mil.
NTA is about 41cts but not sure if the NTA is based on their cost or of the market value of the investments....anyone can help???...will do some homework on this.
its sells the marine and offshore bussiness and share prices drop to low of 31cents.maybe it good time to buy and wait for it to recover
it's PE is also quite low (~ 4)...
hi... there was a huge drop from $0.8 to $0.38 on 29 Nov 05... what happened that day?
btw, the chairman is Dr Tan Cheng Bock, a former PAP MP...
Chuan Hup Holdings Limited was a tug and barge service provider to the PSA in Singapore. Developed a core competency in the provision of marine transportation services to the mining and energy sectors, Chuan Hup is now one of the leading owners and operators of marine transport equipment to the resource industry. Hope it helps. By the way i think its price now is below value...seems like a good stock. Well thats just my opinion. Cheers
Anyone knows what Chuan Hup is now focusing into since selling the core business off?
