And the 1100 pts drop is the worst ever in the history of India, Asia's oldest bourse.
The Indian Sensex plunged more than 1100 pts (10%) intra-day on Mon. It clawed back, closing 4.2% lower. And you didn't see the markets collapsing??!!
any sign of market collapsing ?? i don't see any. not even in india.
Let's not all panic here, but then again there is a reality check that should be taken note of. The S&P500 (close cousin of the Dow) operates on a 50 month cycle approx (trough to trough) and has done ever since 1928 (or as far back as my data takes me!) The current 4 year cycle began in Oct 2002 an is unquestionably a bullish cycle. This is the 13th bullish 4 year cycle on the S&P 500 and of the 12 previous occasions the minimum retracement of its peak was 25% of the rise (ending April'94) and the largest retracement off the peak of a 4 year bullish cycle was 72% of the rise, (ending Aug '82). If you believe that we have reached the peak of the current 4 year cycle (no one can say for sure yet, but let's assume for this purpose) then we have only retraced 13% off the peak point of May8th 2006, which means we probably have a long way to go yet, and yes, we are due for a 4 year cycle low some time in the next 12 months.. But then again, that's only a 72% probability so don't bet on it!! Hope you can see the chart...

I think more people will sell after seeing the massive selldown which has already occurred. They think they will try their luck in soccer bets, rather than losing their money in stocks. There are also people who sell to meet margin calls.
actually i think its a good thing that the world cup is coming. most people will not be trading so much and hopefully the markets take a breather from this free fall.
what do you all think?

It is time to relook into our portfolio before too late. World cup heat is coming to town.
I think its a vicious cycle... one market spooking the other. I just hope this ends soon. Too many people getting killed by this.

thai bev may look good but its market is still very much thai based. also, if it is so solid, why list in singapore... shld be also to raise the add'l $1bn in BKK ?
Thai economy affected by political turmoil ???
That hv some truth in it, alot of $$$ to BOC and Thai Beverage, still there's enough for other good stocks, be select, esp v low PE ratio, good profit type of companies and with good dividend.
What I meant is that the 2 IPOs could do well on huge volumes, while other stocks suffer from disinterest, low volumes and falling prices.
Or they could delay their listings in the current adverse market environment.
