IF YOU'RE NOT SURE THAT YOU QUALIFY AS A TRUE SENIOR CITIZEN, THE FOLLOWING CHECKLIST MAY BE OF ASSISTANCE:

Everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt doesn't work.
The gleam in your eye is the sun shining on your bifocals.
You feel like the morning after... but you haven't BEEN anywhere.
You get winded playing cards.
Your little black book contains only names ending in MD.
Your children begin to look middle-aged.
A dripping tap causes an uncontrollable urge.
You join a health club - and don't go.
You have all the answers, but nobody asks the questions.
You look forward to a dull evening.
You need glasses to find YOUR glasses.
You turn the lights down for economy, not for romance.
You can't remember how to start your rocking chair.
Your knees buckle but your belt won't.
Your back goes out more often than you do.
You put your bra on back to front and it fits better.
Your house is too big and your medicine cabinet is too small.
You sink your teeth into a steak, and they stay there.
Your birthday cake collapses under the weight of the candles.
You decide to live long enough to be a problem to your kids and get your own back.

Look at those centurians on paper, they look so lonely. I think they need companion beside money. They are asset to our nation, get them together and public a book call memior of the centurian, whatever money earned from selling the book will go into the fund to keep them alive. They oso can be employed as part time history teacher and I think they can teach singapore history better than any history teacher in school.

Altho there are centurians in S'pore, and around the world, I think some of them may not be exactly accurate cos of the birth registration procedure + efficiency more than 100 years ago. From ST, obituaries column does not really reflect the statistics. An avg  column in the ST is not cheap, so only those families who can afford it will book a column. So ya, Registry of Births and Deaths will have the correct statistics.

I read ST paper, there are not many centurian in singapore and understand that population is growing. Since we have so much money invested in oversea market and return was good as reported in paper, may I suggest that we take 1% of those profit and contribute it to the annunities pool fund.

So... 85 is the magic figure...

And we've been assuming the insurance companies are doing us a favour with annuities!

After monitoring the obituraries column of strait times for past few days, noticed more than 50% died before age of 85, this may not be accurate.  The only accurate source for dead data is from the ministry incharge of death registry.

Senior Harryp, are you sure no cremate in Malacca? Are you sure burial ground is expensive? I mean did you actually look into all that?

The rent in Singapore rocketed. My expatriate colleagues have to move to cheaper condos. They also got no personal cars to drive around. Only one company to share around. Although KL is expensive but at least Proton got no import duty.

Oh ya, forgot Malacca. Malacca is ok at the moment but with so many Sporeans lining to retire there, I believed they will drive up the cost of living very fast........Smiley

The disadvantage of living there is that one has to spend money for a coffin and a burial ground upon expiry whereas in Spore.. just cremate and ashes scatter into the Spore River boleh already....

Another one is the bumi issue...

Singaporeans have been sppon fed for far too long liao...time to learn to use chopsticks on our own.

When I was in HK years back and asked a restaurant manager if i could smoke after finishing my meal...he asked "U from Singapore ?" After replying yes to him...he said...."Singapore is such a "Man Ju"(Democratic in Cantonese) country............before we do anything, we always "Man"(ask) our "Ju"(Master)"...hahaha

Even with the sub-standard of living, it is not really cheap to stay in our neighbouring countries. From my experience Bangkok and Jakarta are not really cheaper than Spore, unless one is thinking of staying in the Kalimantan jungles... but the dangers.....

Yep, Spore is nice. Upon arrival at Changi airport, Singaporeans are already pampered and feel special by our friendly immigration officers with a special counter just for us...

As sporeans we pride ourselves as staying in a country with high standard of living compared to our neighbours.

This is the price we have to pay.
