Dear investors,

This is the time again... end of Sep or early Oct when SPH will announce its FY result and dividend. Expect the share price to creep up again during this period. I guess it is a good time now to accumulate for value / long term investors especially at the present market condition whereby its valuation isn't demanding, it's defensive with good dividend yield.

Better still, Dow dip 250pts last Fri, thus expect a sell down come Mon. A good chance to buy between $4.08 - $4.26, the price the company last buy-back 1.7mn of its own share 3 weeks ago. Cheers!

Been vested and divested with this counter a few times........very slow moving and not efficient use of investor's funds.

However, SPH pays interim and final divvy.......FYE is 31 Aug and HY is 28/29 Feb. I have found that if you buy on dips before HY and FY announcements....around Sep/Oct and second half of Mar...then wait for announcement.....there will be some movement....up to xd. Can make some $$$ (5% to 10%) for holding for 2 mths........not exciting in a bull market but not too bad in a quiet market.

Dear Anthony....it all depends what you are looking for in your investment horizon. If you are looking for fast and quick bucks, SPH will not be the choice as this elephant is extremely slow. You may want to look at Oil and Marine sector as well as contruction which will give your $$ a good run. Of course the risk is extremely high if you bet on the wrong company. No Risk no Gain!...SPH has been on a healthy trading volume of about 4 to 6 million a day. However the price does not move (at all). I enter SPH when it was about to XD at 4.3X (6 mths ago). Collected the divvy and the price of the stock is still at this level. However, I don't see this as a bad thing (LOL) because if the share price does not move, we are collecting divvy for FREE as compared to putting $$ in the bank and yield a pathetic interest. Paragon is a milking cow. Why divest when it is giving extra $$ to the company. As for the Sky Eleven, we will not see the fruit until 2-3 years from now. So unless you want to hold tight to this stock, we should see the share price at a "fair value" about 5.50-6.00, taking into consideration of all the investment SPH is holding now. Now the milliion dollar question: when will SPH hit the $5.50-6.00 level? Your guess is as good as mine, my take is 2 years. Just to share my view with you.

DBS Group Research recommend a call buy today at $4.38. Target price $5.25. There is an upside of 20% Facts:-1. Sky@eleven all sold out.

2.Valuation of Paragon is very good.

                                   3. SPH advertising revenue is increasing.

                                   4. Newsprint price is lower

Please correct me if any fact above is wrong. This is what I know.Maybe there are some other factors which I still not aware of . Very keen to learn more about this counter because vested. Contributions most welcome. Thanks.

Hi Anthony,

Mata cheng teh kor is a bit exaggerated. But I hold this stock for many years. This is the anchor stock of my portfolio, and kinda FD.

Hi incrient,

It is a hokkien phrase. Means to say that in the old days, policeman's uniform is in shorts (ie wear shorts and not long pants).... also means to say long, long time ago.

Anthony

Look at it this way.

Many a time, investing in a stock is like buying one's favourite 4D number. We must keep buying. The day we forget or refuse to continue to buy, it will come out first prize!! Such is the strange phenomenon in life. No harm keeping it for long-term investment if you have the spare cash given the high div yield.
