short-sell first then buy back at the same day
Contra-buy then sell.if cant sell u got actually T+5 days till latest 4:30pm to sell.if u wana buy the shares u got T+4days till 8pm to pay.
Short selling has higher risk but it may also be more easy to make $ than contra..
If the counter is not covered back within the same day of short-sell, CDP will impose a few hundred $ (if I'm not wrong with the figure) fine.
The difference between SGX buy back for you, and you covered back yourself is the price control.
You can control the price that you want to cover back if you do it yourself.
If you short, is it true to say you cannot do anything other than to wait for T+4 for them to buy back?
There is no use trying to cover your position within the T+4 period?
Hi...
to add... I believe there is a penalty attached to short-selling right? Any idea what the penalty is?
Also, since it's stated its T+3, means if i sell today, I have up to 3 days to buy back the share?
Tks~

Hi Jennifer
If u sell a stock(without any position in CDP) = short selling.
For this u have to cover back on the same day, if not sgx will buy back for u, if not wrong is T+3 or 4 days, on top of that, + 2 bids of that buy back day highest price or whichever is higher.
Contra sell simply mean selling a stock which u bought it but haven't pay the $$$ for.
Hope it helps :)
thks zhouyu. do u mean for contra sell trade only, u need to clear on the first day. what abt short selling , i thought is T+3? how do they know whether is normal selling or short selling?
You have to cover back on the same date, meaning the day you short it.
Experts,
Please help to advise me the difference between short sell and contra short sell. For short sell, do i need to cover back on the sell date. Thks
