SHANGHAI - Chinese share prices rose 1.37 per cent on Tuesday for a fourth consecutive record finish after some late morning weakness, with select telecom and steel stocks providing the lead, dealers said.
Volumes were once again very heavy at more than US$7 billion as investors rotated through the market looking for any laggard stock, with profit-taking in the morning allowing some investors to buy on the dip.
The Shanghai A-share Index added 33.68 points to 2,485.79 on turnover of 55.84 billion yuan (US$7.14 billion) and the Shenzhen A-share Index was up 2.0 points or 0.36 per cent at 558.86 on turnover of 27.98 billion yuan.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A- and B-shares, closed up 31.74 points or 1.36 per cent at 2,364.18, a fresh all-time high, on turnover of 56.28 billion yuan.
The yuan was at 7.8218-8238 against the dollar in late trade, down from Monday's finish at 7.8201.
The Shanghai B-share Index slipped 0.27 points or 0.21 per cent to 126.92 on turnover of US$434.87 million and the Shenzhen B-share Index was down 0.01 points at 413.35 on turnover of HK$477.23 million (US$61.34 million).
