ed88ks,

thanks for this information. this provides one more reason for keeping Kepcorp for LONG run.

Perhaps this publicity would expose Kepcorp to real big investors in other part of the world loaded with cash.

with the share split,  DBSV adjusted TP=13.25, Morgan Stanley adjusted TP=12.

Why Keppel is a global superstar: Chee Onn

Forbes names KepCorp, UOB in report on global high performers

By CONRAD RAJ

KEPPEL Corporation executive chairman Lim Chee Onn thinks the reason that business magazine Forbes picked out his company as a global superstar was its clear strategy guiding the expansion of the group's businesses.

Forbes felt that Keppel and United Overseas Bank deserved global superstar status in a survey for a special report on The Global 2000 that sought 'to find big companies that aren't just ponderous behemoths but also are global superstars in every sense'.

'These global high performers are fast-growing, adroit and well managed companies that help set the benchmarks for their respective industries,' Forbes said.

Of the 1,200 global companies looked at by the magazine, only 130 made the final cut.

UOB, Singapore's biggest bank by market capitalisation, was No 1 in the magazine's ranking of the top five banks while Keppel, the world's largest builder of offshore oil rigs, was fifth in the conglomerates category.

Elaborating on the strategy, Mr Lim told his group newsletter, Keppelite: 'Six years ago, when we selected our key businesses, we had explained to the market that the decision was based on our core competencies . . . We aim to be more broad-based. We are building even more robustness into our business models. The very heart of the group's strategy is to build each of our key business units into a strong growth engine providing sustainable earnings.'

He also noted that while the company is currently the world's largest rigbuilder, there will come a time when enough oil rigs have been built to meet the world's demand for them.

'What we try to create is a situation where there is always demand for Keppel's range of products and services at any one time,' Mr Lim said.

Keppel, which focuses on three sectors - offshore & marine, property and environmental engineering - must understand where the demand is, he added.

For instance, he pointed out that in Asia only a small part of the population have proper homes. 'The demand is there. Our challenge is how we can capitalise on the demand which exists and find ways to make that market into a profitable business for ourselves.'

To adapt to the changing marketplace, he said, the company needed to have outstanding people at all levels who had the commercial savvy to understand the local environment and customers' needs.

'We should also have the right technology and commercial astuteness to create the products to meet these needs at each location and at different times.'

He also believes in transparency and openness, being structured and disciplined yet flexible and not risk averse. 'We have to add strategic value to our businesses, nationally and in the locations where we operate, otherwise we become irrelevant.'

But he noted that 'whilst we have ceaselessly sought to increase stakeholders' value and have achieved a creditable result, it has never been at the expense of good corporate governance which remains the North Star in our group's vision'.

1Q result was certainly a very, very pleasant surprise. It was certainly above the optimistic end of my estimate.

O&M business remains strong; KepLand was the star performer; but watch out for KIE......it will go, using singaporegal's words, 'from zero to hero' in the next couple of years or so.

Having viewed the live webcast, the chmn Lim Chee Onn and key exec sounded very positive for 2007.....of course with 'baring unforeseen circumstances' as a caveat emptor.

Bear in mind, xd is on 2 May......and the 1 for 2 share split will be on the same day......so the share will be adjusted to $10.00+ making it affordable to more potential shareholders.

Vested

Keppel Q1 profit jumps 48 pct on rig demand

Thu Apr 26, 2007 5:21am ET20

SINGAPORE, April 26 (Reuters) - Singapore's Keppel, the world's largest builder of offshore drilling rigs, on Thursday posted a 48 percent rise in quarterly profit and said the outlook for new orders for oil and gas exploration vessels was positive.

Keppel Corp. Ltd. (KPLM.SI: QuoteProfile , Research), which is building about one third of all the rigs under construction worldwide, earned net profit of S$252 million ($167 million) the January-March quarter, compared with S$170 million in the same period a year ago.

That was higher than the net profit of S$184 million earned in the fourth quarter of the previous year.

Keppel's earnings were also helped by higher-than-expected profits at its subsidiaries.

Singapore Petroleum Co. (SPCS.SI: QuoteProfile , Research), in which it has a 45 percent stake, reported a 65 percent jump in first-quarter net profit, while Keppel Land (KLAN.SI: QuoteProfile , Research), in which it has a 53 percent stake, announced a 72 percent surge in profit.

Keppel's share price hit an all-time high of S$21.60 on Thursday, bringing its year-to-date gains to 22 percent, beating a 14 percent rise in the benchmark Straits Times Index <.STI>.

Shares in Keppel, which has a market capitalisation of about $11 billion, trade at around 16 times its forecast 2008 earnings, according to Reuters data, compared with 14 times for local rival SembCorp Marine (SCMN.SI: QuoteProfile , Research), which is the world's second-largest offshore rig maker.

Morgan Stanley starts Keppel at overweight

Morgan Stanley analysts Praveen Choudhary and Rob Hart said in a note to investors that they expected Keppel to deliver 20 per cent earnings growth between 2006-09, 'which is a solid performance for a large company with a sizable earnings base'.

'We believe continuation of the rig and oil production units' cycle could sustain for the next two to three years. Additionally, Keppel could see its property investment in Keppel Bay and Keppel Land, as well as a turnaround in its infrastructure business, surprise the consensus on the upside.' -- REUTERS

SINGAPORE - Morgan Stanley has started its coverage of Keppel Corp               at 'overweight' with a share price target of $24 (US$15.85), saying that the Singapore's conglomerate was set to profit from good business across its divisions.

Much will depend on the bullishness of the Big Boys.

I observe that a good number of counters are showing congestion patterns, which can suggest they are consolidation for possible continuation.

So extreme caution must rule if one is bullish. (Which means you may be able to get in at even better prices).

Hi,

this is 1 of my favourite counter, which i have vested since last year in Jan 06 when the price is at $10.30,

at the current price of about $17.60, i think it is still a hot pick by many fund mgrs..due to its prospect...n also recommended by some analyst with target of >$20 in 2007.

also oil price climbing up recently, more semi rigs potential order on the way!!!!

I will slowly start to accumulate when the price is around $17, no need to wait until share split to take place..

just my views..

cheers

From FA point of view, the share split does not change the fundamentals.

eps, divident will be halved but P/E, and % Yield theoretically should remain.

The split is a psychological thing......if the share is now $18.00...after the split, it should be $9.00. So, post split, it is more affordable - 1 lot costs $9,000 (vs $18,000 pre split). Also, people owning 1 lot, now have 2 lots and can lock in some profits (sell 1 lot) and still remain a shareholder.

To buy or sell??...bear in mind final divident is 40.8cts (after tax).

Hi, i think 1st have to look at why there is a stock split by Kepp Crop. I believe the price has reached to a level where the price growth has peaked compared to the company profits. It is a good move by the company to increase its market capitalisation and make it more liquid with the stock split. If you are vested, i suggest you can sell if you have made good profits as i believe the price will settle down and stagnant before the stock split. If you are not vested, it is not a good time to go in. Wait for after the stock split then go in to buy. Just my opinion.
