British PM Blair to step down within 12 months

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Tony Blair confirmed Thursday that he will step down as prime minister within the next twelve months, the BBC reported. Blair was speaking on a visit to a London primary school and made the statement because he wanted to end recent intense speculation over his departure date, said the BBC. Blair has not set a precise date for his departure but the BBC -- quoting Blair allies -- said it's expected to be some time in May.
