Sunningdale Tech surged after Macquarie began coverage with a price target of $0.50 and an "outperform" rating and forecast net earnings of $23 million in 2007, from an $87 million loss last year.

Macquarie analysts, Patrick Yau and Valerie Law, said in a client note that precision plastic moulding companies, such as Sunningdale, were likely to see improved earnings as the industry wrings out excess capacity and take benefit of reduced pressure from high raw material costs such as oil.

"An additional catalyst could come from the rise in M&A activity among EMS (electronic manufacturing services) firms looking for value chain extension deals, and the private-equity led takeout activity in the Asian region among component manufacturers," they said.

Hi francisd,

What I mean is that the uptrend may not last long and the peak may be approaching soon.

Hi lis_wang,

iPunter is right... my style of TA is highly inaccurate for stocks at these low prices.

But just from volume/price observation, I think that buying interest may be fading. If that is true, then the price may peak soon.

This counter when up to a high of .365 and started to turn south again. What is TA experts view on this?

hehe... Singaporegal already told us before...

that these cheep-cheep stocks are not suitable for TA...

coz it plays gaput with her TA internal  mechanisms and fine oscillators, making her TA machine choke, splutter and stall....  :)

but I think a "cheong" is quite likely.

It expects both sales and earnings in Q1 07 to improve over the year-ago period, as the industry glut eases and prices stabilise.

"We think the first quarter of 2007 will be better than the first quarter of 2006, but it's premature to say exactly by how much," Executive Chairman and CEO Koh Boon Hwee told Reuters in an interview.

"Our financial performance, overall, would be better," Koh added, referring to both top line and bottom line.

The group was formed through the merger of precision plastic engineering companies Sunningdale Precision Industries Ltd. and Tech Group Asia Ltd. in July 2005.

It assembles inkjet cartridges, and makes printer casings, plastic panels for the centre consoles in cars, and mobile phone keypads.

Sunningdale competes with plastics firms like Hi-P, First Engineering Ltd. and Fu Yu Corp.

Koh said Sunningdale's Oct-Dec quarter sales would likely fall from the third quarter, as holiday shipments taper off.

"The final quarter is traditionally weaker than the third quarter. By end of November, customers won't take any more shipments because they won't be in time for Christmas sales."

Koh, who is also the chairman of DBS, said the worst was probably over for the plastics industry, but the weak U.S. dollar remained a worry. The firm sells its products in U.S. dollars, but its costs are denominated in regional currencies, with most of its factories located in Singapore, China, Malaysia and Indonesia. The US dollar traded at $1.54 to the Singapore dollar late on Wednesday, compared with $1.66 on Dec. 30, representing a fall of about 7%.

"Barring a catastrophe in the U.S. dollar, we expect industry and company growth to be in the region of low double-digits, in the order of 10%," Koh added, referring to revenues.
