Apple. That bright and shiny tech darling continues to taste a little sour.
FORTUNE -- The new dividend and share re-purchase plans Apple (AAPL) announced Tuesday may make the stock more attractive to investors. But the analysts who follow the company couldn't ignore its lower margin and revenue guidance. Their recommendations (Buy, Hold, Sell, etc.) didn't change, but more than half the analysts we polled lowered their 12-month price targets.
A few stats:
- Largest cut:   From $725 to $545 (J.P. Morgan's Mark Moscowitz)
- Average (all targets): Reduced to $586 from $600
- Median (all targets): Reduced to $543 from $550
- High target: $888 (Topeka's Brian White, unchanged)
- Low target: $360 (Berenberg's Adnaan Ahmad, unchanged)

" It's trying to hold $420. I think people think it's soon going to come out with news on a buyback," said Redler. " It needs to get above the $435/$437 pivot point to break the downtrend and start looking better."
Apple stock traded as low as $425.14, a more than $6 decline on the day, before rallying mid-afternoon to as high as $439.10. Apple closed at $437.87, a gain of 1.4%.
After falling more than 40%, its all-time high of $705 back in Sept, is showing signs of a comeback.
It gained 7% over past 2 wks. Friday closed above 50-day moving average for the 1st time since Oct.
it's significant as it may confirm a trend reversal. In the last ten years, the stock was up between 10 and 17%, on average, 3 mths after closing above that level.
I hold a few AAPL short put options position (i.e. I am mildly bullish on AAPL), so they are incurring losses at the moment.  However, since they are long dated, and still have positive time value, I am not too worried. I can gradually switch them to less risky positions. For example, last night I switched an option from a put strike of 480 to 420, so if AAPL stays above 420 by year end, I am OK. In any case, AAPL seems to be stabilizing, and at this point, the chances of upside looks higher than downside likelihood.

Forget the " fiscal cliff." The real panic on Wall St is over Apple's stk. Nearly  every mutual and hedge fund has piled into Apple spectacular rising over the past few yrs. Now, these same funds are scrambling for the exits as the stock goes through an equally spectacular decline.
