This whole PE show has diminished the status of respect for the position of President, at least that is what I feel. First is the destroy of our expectation with the beating down of the power to custodial and ceremonial status by the Law Min. Then the finger-pointing by the candidates. Where do we go from here. Who you would be voting ? Make any difference ? Haiz.
hmmm...since u mentioned it...perhaps i would like to clarify somethg..Tony's refuted that allegation on his 3x sons on some NS deferment issue that has preferential treatment...i m curious since he said are " lies.." WHY cant he SUES whoever that make this allegation instead of juz issuing a press statement? i mean it is his against the other's word...now who is speaking the truth? TOny is a defence minister for that period while his sons are under NS obligations...most ppl will thk that will exert some influence on " preferential" treatment on his SONS directly/indirectly right? SUE whoever that alleged him...else it is TOny's word against the other....then wat?!??! :P

This Presidential election is making a fool out of us.
The govt want to make us feel good, by having a President to look after our money, and then at the same time , they also have means to overpower him.
This whole thing is in fact a scam of sort,
Actually, it is not a question of who to vote for really???
But rather do we want to have a President.
Let Singaporean vote to decide whether we really need a President or not???
The money belong to us, not the President.
So if the govt want to use it, they should ask Singaporean.
So why not have a referendum to seek Singaporean approval???, afterall, you don't use the reserve every now and then. ..once in a.very long in a recession .

If present day govt can use constitution to overide him, you look at Ong Teng Cheong, Look what happen to him in the end.??
The govt can change constitution , make the constitution a joke. What is a constitution???You can keep changing a constitiuton to your advantage., what then constitute a constitution?? you tell me.
Elected President is waste of our time and resource and money, We do not need a President.
Personally I feel Tony Tan has the best ability & a natural diplomat amongst the candidates to lead as Singapore's elected President to fulfill his domestic capacity as well as represent our country on international frontiers (int'l relations). Yes he comes from a privileged background yet carries himself with humility.
Don't know about you but to me i see the role of a President quite simply as a leader to lead, not someone with personal interests to create policy dilution, political upheavals for the ruling govt & social confusion.
Some candidates are rather idealistic in their promises to reach out to every Singaporean, listen to everybody's views (100%) and concerns to help make our lives better. Like that ahh. HOW not to instill the attitude of complacency, over-reliance, the govt-feeds-me and owes-it-to-me mindset? It is not in the interests of our future generation to grow up lacking in independence & a gd sense of competitiveness. The social framework and family shapes them.
Need someone to conduct checks and balances on PAP? There are already many intellectual opposition members in the Cabinet well versed in law practices with business background. That's the reason why they're there.
Anyone knows whats panties brand TT was wearing???
