Vard
Last fri 6/7,the management of Vard Holdings (Vard) announced that they anticipate earnings for this quarter (11/7 result release) to be below consensus estimates.
Vard attributed this to further delays and costs overruns at its Niterói yard in Brazil as well as higher start-up costs for its new Promar shipyard.
This came as a surprise to the market as Vard had previously guided that its Brazil operations are coming under control and would stabilize by year-end.

Will pp short on vard (11/7) for bad earnings ?

It's anyone's guess. But I think it is likely margins will still be affected by the Brazil yard in the coming results. But increasingly, there have been pressure from the offshore O& G industry in Brazil and especially Petrobras for the government to lift local content law for at least certain type of vessels as supply to meet local content law is really tight.

Anyway, revenue for shipping building companies are actually quite predictable as can estimate the POC based on existing order books. For sure, the 2 vessels that were supposed to delivered in 4Q12 but ended up being delivered in 1Q13 will contribute to 1Q13 results.

So, coming result will include the difficulties they face in Brazil? Or will only show in next result? Thanks

The driver for Vard's business is not really concentrated in any region. The main driver is what are the oil majors' (Shell, BP, etc) expectations of future oil and gas prices. If they think price will increase or remain at current level, then they will spend more on oil exploration and production (E& P) activities. These E& P activities require the use of Vard's vessels.

Thus, it is more than just Europe, but rather the world's economy, which in turn affects future oil prices.

Vard's brazil yard is currently facing operational issues, largely to do with manpower. Brazil is currently undergoing an oil boom with the discovery of large offshore oil reserves. This puts pressure on manpower, especially due to Brazil's requirement for local content (i.e. a certain percentage needs to be locals). Due to the delays, some of the contracts are not expected to be profitable and have been factored in analysts' forecasts. Going forward, Vard will need to consider these factors in their bid for new Brazil contracts.

Then u should also offer to share your profits if commentors/gurus advice help u earn money.

wait, im wrong. since u stated bear your losses... then any profits u made, they should received all of it too.

This " you want to bear my losses if market heading south next week?" plus " you want to get my profits if market heading north next week?"

Then is fair.

Bro, u also said stx sold stxosv already. Why keep saying stx is parent group. Stxosv, or renamed Vard, belongs to fincantieri now. How badly stx corp perform doesn't affect vard already

STX Parent group needed badly to pay back S$1.1 billion corporate debt maturing this years.

STX Engine missed payment matured last week.

STX Corp debt faces some 200 billion won in debts maturing this month.

Note - Banks private equity is eyeing STX Pan Ocean after opening bidding fail to attract bidders.

It has oredi sold STX Energy and STXosv to Vard Holdings.

STX (parent) down sizing to re-structure their debt...if not the ship will sink further.
