Thanks Livermore & zhuge_liang.

Did you read the article in BT today regarding China & inflation,
http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/sub/news/story/0,4574,267175,00.html?

"Green" counters aren't as cheap as I expected.
Some PE quite high while others don't seem to be doing well.
Yes, trading is a serious business; will need some hard work to make easy money.  Smiley

Hi Onesharer,

I don't normally recommend stocks but the stock to look for commodities is Noble Group. Anyway I am not vested in this. As you know food prices in Singapore have risen and people are worried about inflation.I think food and other things are not going to be cheaper in the future. Let's look at food prices. We are not just facing a growing world population but more people in China and India will consume more food as wealth increases. Then there is the issue of decreasing fresh water. That will have an impact on agricultural harvest. With increased urbanisation, land for food crops is getting less. Further more we are using "food" to make diesel. With all these factors, food prices should trend up.

Oil price is going to trend up. That will affect many things that are made of plastics that come from oil. So many things are made of plastics.

Global warming is partly causing our oil wells to dry up and lakes are shrinking.

Another "green" company is China Sun. It produces ethanol for use as bio-fuel.

It's a very good idea to go into commodities. Prices have been rising the past few years and will continue for the long term.

Hyflux water trust, like other counters these days, don't seem to be doing so well.
Are there counters doing water projects in third world countries?

zhuge-liang:  Thanks for the info.  Not familiar with all these counters...so much to learn.
Glancing at the Wilmar thread, serious postings there; will be taking notes.

Livermore:  Sounds like it may be a good idea to go into commodities?
With the right vision, can reap good profits.

OneSharer, jatropha counters include Yoma and GKE. I believe there's a list in the Wilmar - Bio-diesel thread.

We are likely to face fresh water crisis and time to look at the  waste water treatment companies. When there is less water, rice crops and other food have less water. With less food and a  growing world population, it only means agricultural food commodity prices are going to trend up

Thanks for the replies.  Some time ago, TV showed a few people walking through flooded waters.  A boy even dipped his head toward the dirt-colored water, not sure if he was drinking it or washing his face/head.  As someone living in a modern society, hard to imagine life there.   Really need to be grateful for what we have.

Thus, I was hoping for a list of "green" counters (i.e. those that protect/help the environment).

Zhuge-liang:  Jatropha sounds so interesting.  What are the names of the counters?

Burbur:  Such an informative post.  Sounds like something that is worth investing; but, will definitely do my own analysis, too.  Thanks.

Green counters are those dealing in alternative energies. These include solar energy, hydro power, trading in carbon credits and maybe even palm oil and jatropha counters.

May I know what are some of the "green" counters available -- those that help the environment.

Don't mind making money (hopefully) and also doing something meaningful.

Previously from SJ, some people mentioned Ecowise.  Any others to consider?

Thanks.
