Nov 22 : Bluechip sph :Lianhe Zaobao launches new online portal zaobao.sg at Zaobao ForumMr Goh said: "When Zaobao first embarked on a series of dialogue sessions with cabinet ministers, we realised that providing readers with a platform for such engagement in a language that they are most comfortable in really matters. Hence, the Zaobao Forum is the most natural and fitting choice in deciding upon a finale to our string of celebrations commemorating Zaobao's 90thanniversary. It is Zaobao's honour to have Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as the Guest of Honour for the Forum."

According to the latest Nielsen data, Singapore?s total adex for Oct rose a dismal 0.9% yoy versus an average 5% yoy increase recorded in 9M13, with newspaper adex being the key driver of weakness, falling 3% yoy while magazine and print adex also trended lower. The muted newspaper adex trend mirrored dismal new home sales data in Oct? volumes fell 48% yoy, as developers held back on property launches. While the brunt of the government?s cooling measures may already have been felt by SPH, DB find it difficult to envisage significant turnaround within the near-term. While SPH?s fundamentals are not favourable, house recognize the relative attractiveness of its dividend yield of 5.3%. DB has HOLD with $4.09 TP.

I suspect the company may do a major share buy back for cancellation to benefit the shareholders.

Can someone go ask the mgt during the coming AGM?

SPH is going to celebrate x yrs of anniversary next year in a big way. It is hoped that the Mgt will announce some special benefits e.g. a special payout or bonus issue  for the shareholders.

Singapore Press Holdings ST: as long as 4.18 is support look for 4.38
Trading Central | 2013-11-17 23:46:00

Alternative scenario: the downside breakout of 4.18 would call for 4.1 and 4.06.

4.18 is our pivot point.

Our preference: as long as 4.18 is support look for 4.38.

Alternative scenario: below 4.18, expect 4.1 and 4.06.

Comment: the RSI is above its neutrality area at 50. The MACD is positive and below its signal line. The stock could retrace in the short term. Moreover, the stock is above its 20 and 50 day MA (respectively at 4.24 and 4.15). Singapore Press Holdings is currently trading near its 52 week high reached at 4.49 on 11/04/13.

SPH - Yield attractions

Written By Stock Fanatic on Friday, September 27, 2013 | 9/27/2013

Expect final/special DPS of 16Scts with payout in Dec, equating to 4% yield for a c.10-week period

■ Muted earnings priced in rebound likely with recent upward GDP revisions

Financials can comfortably support another 20 to 30 Scts/share payout, on top of 22 Scts in FY14F

Reiterate BUY, TP revised to S$4.53

Expect 16 Scts final/special DPS
In SPH?s upcoming full year results (11 Oct 2013), we expect final/special DPS of 16 Scts. This will bring total DPS paid/proposed for FY13 to 41 Scts, representing a yield of 10%. SPH shares usually trade ex-final/special dividend within the first 2 weeks of Dec, and based on our expectations for 16 Scts DPS, this equates to a yield of 4% for a 10-week holding period.

We believe this is attractive, and limits downside risks during this period

Muted earnings priced in
Given consensus? earnings downgrade of 8% in the past year since Aug?12, we believe the market has largely priced in a weak set of operating results amid an uncertain macro environment. Going forward, we believe earnings could improve, going by recent upward adjustments to consensus? 2013 GDP growth forecast for Singapore.

We also noted that AdEx growth for the period from May to Aug?13 has been stronger y-o-y.

Potential for higher payout
With the listing of SPH REIT, we project that SPH?s cash pile has risen to c.S$1.1bn. We estimate SPH can well afford to pay out at least another 20-30 Scts per share, on top of its usual DPS (FY14F: 22 Scts) to shareholders while net gearing still remains at a healthy 0.30x to 0.37x, up from an estimated 0.18x at end-FY14F.

Reiterate BUY, S$4.53 TP
We reiterate our BUY recommendation, with TP adjusted to S$4.53 (from S$4.75) to account for the S$0.18 special DPS paid in Aug and 5-10% cut to our earnings forecasts. This implies a total return potential of c.16%. Share price catalyst could come from higher earnings and further cash distributions given its huge cash horde. (Read Report)

Singapore Press Holdings ST: the RSI is overbought
Trading Central | 2013-11-03 23:46:00

The configuration is positive.

Our pivot point stands at 4.18.

Our preference: the upside prevails as long as 4.18 is support.

Alternative scenario: below 4.18, expect 4.1 and 4.06.

Comment: the RSI is above 70. It could mean either that the stock is in a lasting uptrend or just overbought and therefore bound to correct (look for bearish divergence in this case). The MACD is above its signal line and positive. The configuration is positive. Moreover, the stock is above its 20 and 50 day MA (respectivel

By Share investment-Sph -More Than Just The National Press
Despite a relatively poor showing in its recent financial result release, SPH still has many things going on for it. No doubt, the decision to move away from its publication business mainstay was astute. Elsewhere, Singapore?s national press has the following characteristics that investors should take note of:

Strong management team
(Lee Boon Yang, chairman and former minister), largest shareholder being the Lee Foundation
Products are widely distributed over Singapore.Long history of high dividend payout ratio.
Although print publications are somewhat of a sunset industry, the company has been actively pursuing emedia as it?s next frontier (established a $100 million fund to invest)
As mentioned earlier, sph have been put through rigorous and stringent screening. This stock thus been proven to be at the very least, fundamentally sound.

This is a stock that a modern homemaker would be interested to invest in.
