Heineken bought 609,890 APB shares yesterday when it closed at $14.10, lifting its direct holding to 24.49 mln shares or 9.53%.
On Jul 14/25, F&N had bought a total of 1,800,024 shares, lifting its direct holding to 14.04m shares or 5.46%.
F&N and Heineken jointly own Asia Pacific Investments, which owns 167.33m shares or 65.085% of APB's issued capital, ie Heineken's effective stake is 42.07% and F&N 38%.
The history of F&N/Heineken/APB relationship goes back more than 60 years ago. And much has changed, especially at F&N, which is to all intents and purposes a property company today. It even owns Times Publishing. APB may no longer be such a good fit.
It is also a known fact that Heineken has a bigger say over the brewing operations of APB than F&N, given its expertise and superior product, eg APB's breweries in China don't brew Heineken beer for sale in China.
F&N selling its stake in Asia Pacific Investments to Heineken can't be ruled out, the last deal by Michael Fam, F&N's retiring Exceutive Chairman. In such an eventuality, Heineken may not be required to launch a GO for APB (since it has always been in "control"). And there has been one such precedence in S'pore: when Temasek bought over SembCorp' entire > 60% stake in SingFoods several years ago, without having to launch a GO.
This is according to OCBC ..
Share price of APB +29% amid speculation that APB may be taken private by F&N &/or Heineken. Speculation was fuelled by F&N's recent 2 purchases of APB shares, which increased their stake to 5.46%. APB's largest shareholder, API (with a 65.09% stake), is in turn owned by F&N & Heineken. Responding to query from SGX, APB pointed out that F&N had said in an announcement issued on 25 jul, that F&N's intention is for APB to remain listed.
Earlier statement about F&N taking APB private was posted at 16:05.
However, at 16:37, POEMS' AFX news headlines states, "Singapore's Fraser & Neave rejects speculation APB may be taken private."
??
POEMS' AFX news headlines stated that it's higher on hopes that F&N will take it private.
probably so... also the very low day to day volume is a turn off for me.
Some manipulation or internal sale here is it?? The volume don't look that great. But if it is so, it looks like this stock performed a classic cup and handle pattern and is breaking out, which I spoke about in the forum of Cosco Corp. But what puzzles me is that the volume don't look very high. Someone purchased a large number of share some time back though.
Yeah...... why huh? $3.1 gain today!
Any idea why the sudden surge of APB's price?? 28% gain in one day and it's not a cheap stock!?!
