Wow!!! good story. Thank you for sharing this story.
As "Tan Ah Teck" said: The moral of the story, be alert like the birds as wat cheongwee said.
Never throw caution to the air, tats why, everyday without fail, after mkt close, I practice one of my golden mantras ie. i will review my stocks chart to "Plan my trade and trade my plan" the next trading day, ie should I or should I not take action, very mechanical, no emotion involved.

richtan san, greetings.
so the story continue.
buaya was always laying trap. buaya also caught birds that walk into its jaws.
buaya like to leave the dead bird by the side of the rivers and share it with the other animals. mainly the rats are interested. at first all the rats are cautious. each think... " where got so big bird laying for us to eat". then a more daring rat move forward and have a bite. yes it taste so good so it has another bite. the rest of rats saw the brave rat enjoying the feast and was very tempted. soon many other rats joined the feast of the chicken. and they eat and they eat and they enjoyed it and thank themselves for the good luck.
then suddenly the buaya appear from no where and swallow up a few rats together with the bird. the rest who was lucky not to be bitten quickly ran away. but those that were caught by the buaya it was the end. the rats enjoy the bird but in the end also pay their life as dividend to buaya for eating its bird.
the rats who survive learn a lesson. they know that the bird is not free. if they want to eat they will just have 1 quick bite and run. live to eat another day.
you mean in Asiatic or stock market ? I was sayiing Laulan asked for 5 good penny stocks but i only have one for him...actually i can add Equation but Asiatic business has more potential for multi-fold gains.. If other forumers can recommend 1 or 2 more, then we could benefit . We do not have time to monitor and follow too many long counter..

Everyone knows the pitfalls in stock markets and let's not get carried away with stories.....
Since Laulan is not going to lose sleep over the daily fluctuations (sounds like GIC) and is taking at least a 5-year horizon ; and want to retire to tour the world comfortably, he has to go for good penny with high profit growth - ie. high growth stock...
So we should name 1 or 2 pennies that meet this criteria for his consideration and also share with all forumers (since nobody can folow too many counters). Maybe, there is one that we do not know..( I may be blinded by Asiatic high profit growth of 20% in the past 5 yrs ; and firmly believe it can repeat this in the next 5 years as its power generation business is scalable with economic growth...)
i hope you dont mind....u put ALL your $$$ here...because u say one to two penny...i want to clarify with you,,,,,thanks..

we must set a stop loss..in everything...yes everything..even in relationship...why go on suffering...if your spouse give you problem and really, really there are no solution, then you got to cut...no point to carry on...really, you end up killing each other...
It is easy to say ,but when always come to carry out, always emotion take over..
emotion is stronger than you thk it is....
fpr example,... right now inside cheongwee mind he thk...."dont sell mermaid now, it got more to go,,i thk 90c my tg...hoy say liao...next...nw it is 80c....hold,...then tomolo...OMG mermaid now 70c...never mind hold it will be at 90c again,,,hold...but mermaid go even lower..70c...OMG...it have gone below by buy px...of 60c...
never mind ..buy more...i read shrjunction cheongwee said can go 1 buck....ave down..ppl at shr juncttion tok good abt this counter...oil is going up....then next ..what the heck? cheongwee bullshit...now i am down 10k...now mermaid is just a small fry..it is 30c...the end.

Ha ha, one getting involve in stocks investment, must be experience n vigilant.
D risk in stock investment is rather dynamic, any calamity happening in d stock market, no one stock, be it blue or penny, be spared. Ie d last credit crunch.
Of course, for sifus, esp those well versed with low valuation principle, AK presumes they had acc some good stocks, again be it penny of blue one, when STI drove down to ard 1456.95 in Mar.
By now, if they r not greed, they could hv pocketed great $ n exit d market. On d otherhand, if they foresee that there is still room for improvement for d stock market n likely no foreseeable market turbulance in near term, they can still give themselve further market confidence and stay along with d market loh. Of course they hv to closely monitor their individual's stock trend and market sentiment, before they could do any action loh.
Lets see. In this forum there are a few types of experts we can see. To name a few and no offence to others who are not mentioned, the pennies and small cap experts who are making quite comfortably in these stocks are: Humulus, Victor, Ipunter and a long list not possible to mention. Let us have their valuable opinions. Some shifus on valuations have taught us alot here. Let us hear more views, please.
and also big big loss,,,if this rally will to end abruptly...
over confident and greed kills!!!

If I want to retire comfortably in 5 years time and able to enjoy touring all over the world, now with $100K set aside for Penny Stocks, which 5 counters are the best to pick so that money will be increased then at least twice? Five counters each 20K without fear of losing much capital and there is every chance for appreciation twice the amount. Please note I cannot lose the capital at all. At best return me $100K with interests. The question was posed to me by a friend's aunty and I am scratching my head to answer them. I am sure you know the answer!!!
Thanks for your reply. I will digest and study hard with post.

I will only invest in one REIT and one shipping trust with this amount of capital. Choose one of the largest and most established REIT around (e.g. CapitaMall, CapitaComm, A-REIT, SuntecREIT). Choose also one of the largest and most established Shipping Trust (e.g. First Ship Lease Trust, Rickmers). Buy them at low valuations (when their calculated annual distribution yield is at least 10% based on their unit prices). Then, just keep holding to them and continue receiving distributions as long as their fundamentals are going strong. Then, collect the distributions and reinvest back into the same investment trusts if wanting to compound the investment returns. If don't want to compound the investment returns, then just spent all the distributions collected.
The good thing about only buying at low valuations in investment trusts is that one gains a margin of safety and even when the trust runs into a refinancing problem, one still have chance to make an exit fast (since one's average price will be low enough to absorb the impact from the drop in unit price due to negative sentiments of the market). So, it is absolutely safe to invest in investment trusts as long as one practised the concept of margin of safety (investing only at low valuations substantially below the NAV of the trust) to safeguard one's invested capital.
Margin of safety also applies to buying any other company shares. Always buy at low prices to protect one's capital and also increase one's returns. Low average share prices help to absorb any impact of drop in share price should any company's fundamentals go wrong. One can exit and sell fast and not get burnt easily if one's initial judgment of a company's potential turns out wrong.
<Always select only good companies to invest in. Always invest at low prices to gain a safety margin to protect against deterioration in company fundamentals so that one can make an easy exit should things go wrong as there is nothing guaranteed in this world.>

I suggest going for more stable yielding investments such as Shipping Trusts or REITs which some good ones still provide good annual distribution yield (~10%) at current prices. This is a comfortable yield which will provide ~$10k yearly passive income based on a $100k capital. This $10k can be fully spent or reinvested for compounding the investment. By 10 years, one would have recover back an equivalent of the initial capital sum from collecting distributions. If all goes well, one can expect around the same yearly yield of $10k (assuming without reinvesting the distributions) continuously (though there is nothing guaranteed in this world).
This is much safer than investing capital into penny stocks which may result in gains as well as equal chance of loss of capital. For a retiree, capital preservation should be priority over investment gains. If all goes well, one can expect around the same yearly yield of $10k (assuming without reinvesting the distributions) continuously (though there is nothing guaranteed in this world).
Please also note that not all Shipping Trusts or REITs are good investments. Please do your own homework to find out good ones to invest in.
