I got a friend who is teaching in a mixed secondary school in Tebrau in JB. This is what he related last week :
He saw a group of 20s to 30s men aruging outside his school cpd, some were also surveying the school from outside the school fence. He called for police. When the police came the group disperse to nearby area where the 2 groups were "Tham Pan". Suddenly the local group took out their hidden parangs and starting chopping at the opposite group (said to be from Kulai). The chief negotiator's both armwere cut off prsuming that he is using his arm to block the parangs and he was slashed over over the body. He was rushed to JB general Hospital (I think it is called Sultanah Aminah Hospital) which refused to accept the dying man by giving the reason that there is no surgeon around. He was then rushed to a private hospital, also was rejected. By the time he reached a third hospital, he was pronounced dead due to lost of blood.
The local gangster has being collecting protection money from students. Those who can fight will be recruited, those cannot fight, pay protection money of at least RM20 per month.
The point is how can Hospital rejects injured person, the 1st hospital head should be reprimanded or removed, while the private hospital should also be fined or shamed in the public media. Where is the code of ethics among medical personnels ?
Sorry....typo...
You cannot put a price tag on life lor......in Singapore seeking medical help can also be cheap......Polyclinic checkup $4.....KK eye centre $97......Daughter got 300 'degree' but will be 'OK or reduced' as she age....priceless.

Yes...Will likely make him or her more rebellious w/o knowing why?. he is just only 9 years old. A very confuse child living in adult world.
For some, a child can be born lazy or less incline to learn and so on...

Caning in school is not different from a parent slapping the child at home for the same 'offense'.
Before caning a child, one must know the reason behind the wrong-doing...
Is the child simply lazy? or
Does he/she lack loving supervision at home (and also in school)? or
Is he/she naturally rebellious sort?
In my opinion, caning the child for any or all of the above reasons will only make the child worse!...

In some way, parent need to understand and been educated by school advisery board and school /child specialist concillor if and when canning is required to be carry out and when serious consequence happening, citing in the case death happen as in this boy canning has shown, one of this / such scenario.
Spare the rod & you'll spoil the child!!!!!
teeth53 thot so: Who's to response when thing goes very wrong, Doctor, school board, headmaster, child specialist concillor, teachers, MOE or parent..?.

Then it will probably become the fault of the doctor. So before caning, we should MRI, CT, Liver AST ALT, Full Blood, urine test ??? Is this practical ??
In malaysia, pple are generally not sensitive to their (body) system until too late.
When my daughter don't like to watch TV but like to see the scenary looking out of the window and as she is rather active and vocal. I send her to a eye test.....results....6/9....polyclinic say MUST go KK eye centre.
Because normally 4 years old SHOULD have 6/6 vision, anything less means some wrong.
KK eyecentre result, Long Sighted Vision with 300 'degree'....my god so bad....probably when she watch TV, it is so blur that she don't to watch. I am not kaisu, I am very concerned !!!
I think it is not just a simple case of teacher and student......

First thing first, that malaysian boy MUST have been ill somehow because caning the palm WILL NOT KILL laaaa.
Next is some anti gahmen slogan.....Spore Ministers salary high high but yet cannot give good salary to our teachers....causing my kid form teacher to teach 3 core subjects because of shortage of teacher. Thanks PAP for everything......
Next....totally agree with dcang84, corpal punishment MUST be instil in schools. Recently, there a Public Caning Session during my kid Assembly.
Principal lead two students to the stage....talk about their offence....Fighting. Students taken away to a private room where punishment is percribed. You don't get to see the free show in the 21st century.

We should keep things in perspective. Are we talking about 1 in a million cases or wat? The behaviour of most teens and kids today says it all.

Johor state health director Dr Mohd Khairi Yaacob said yesterday the Year Three pupil was rushed to the hospital from Segamat Hospital when doctors realised that he needed specialist treatment.
A private hospital neurologist believes the boy could be a victim of asymptomatic arteriovenous malformation in the brain and that it could have been a congenital condition, or it might have occurred due to traumatic injury to the brain.
An arteriovenous malformation is a tangled cluster of vessels, typically located in the supratentorial part of the brain, in which arteries connect directly to veins without any intervening capillary bed.
