if we were like the british, Mr. Jeyaretnam should be bestowed with the title Sir Jeyaretnam...
Actually what I don't understand is that he and his son have different political ideologies. His younger son is PAP, and he WP. How this is possible, puzzling to me somethimes. Father usually follows son and gave encouragement for his aimbitions. Did he fail here? There must be something we don't know about.
I think he entered politics with the ideal that the country belonged to the people and not owned by a few people. He believed and acted on his convictions but I only believe but no actions.
I just wonder what will this man have become should he stay out of Sgp politic? His current status/assets should be much better/more right? Just my tho....
He paved the way for the opposition where others failed. He will sorely be missed.
I used his legal services after he was MP. He was an ex-magistrate/judge, so his legal fees were modestly high, but he was a kind man. If I remembered correctly, after he successfully negotiated a settlement for me, his bills worked out to be about $2500.00, quite a sum those days for me as I was just out working. I couldn't pay him but he was so kind to write the whole bill off. You really can find only a few lawyers like him nowadays! This is a true story and not a make up.
I respect his fighting spirit and never say die attitude.
I'd like to wish his family well and offer my condolences.
don't think he had lived with any regrets.. he had truly lived a colourful life fighting for freedom.. imho, you will see his enemy turning up at his wake to pay his respect to him..
sigh :( .... i remembered buying a book from him at centerpoint about 4 years ago. He seemed a bit frail at that time already. We lost a GREAT HERO. LONG LIVE WORKER'S PARTY!
Did he has any regret on his political life? I wonder wat LKY has to say with his old enemy's departure?
A good man .
It can really make one cry. Our society has lost someone whom we could hope to turn to to fight a cause for our betterment. Now he is dead. May his soul rest in peace!

Mr Jeyaretnam, who had a pre-existing heart condition was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital at about 1.30am but doctors were unable to revive him. Mr Jeyaretnam was the first opposition member to win a Parliamentary seat in 15 years when he won the Anson By-Election in 1981. He left the Workers' Party in 2001, and in July this year, had launched a new party called the Reform Party. |
I am still an admirer, the never say die attitude.
there goes a good man.

it's confirmed. sad that Mr. Jeyaretman passed away due to heart attack. he is an idol to me.... a true warrior who will always live in me...

I was one of his admirers when he was fighting in Anson and won. This man was really a good fighter in the hey days.
