Personally, when I saw the match last nite, it was like the china national vs china national. Rather than Spore Vs China. It's like if China can send more than 1 team to olympics, the spore team was like team B.
But when it came to the award ceremony, it felt good to see Spore flag up there after all. Well, Spore $ investment paid off after all.
BTW, did any of those spore lady players make it to the final of women's single?
oh no , Liu Xiang pulls out of Men's 110 hurdles, becuase of injury... so sad !!!! no more shiok event liao.. maybe too much pressure from the jamaican 100 meter ..
alamak, like this also need FT ? height and speed?
korean and japanese players are very tall, LOL..

Again, we still need FT, as our locals don't hv the height and speed. Just look at the recent match with MU.
Perhaps, it may take yrs before talking about Qf into Olympics or World Cup. Wise saying, if you hv the will, you will make it. Cheers.

the way I see it :
if we were to retrace the steps back abit .. the Olympic Silver we won is actually our very own .. the Intellectual Property ..it came out of the brains of Singaporeans ... it must have been conceived in the mind of a Singaporean who dreamt of the Olympic Medals when the policy of FT for sports was put on track .. so its a Singaporean's Dream that became a reality ...whether I sweep the floor or get someone to sweep the floor ..the end result is that the house is clean ...
Previoulsy, we were more concerned about economic stability, the basic needs. ..and things were geared in that direction ... and Olympic Medals were secondary to 'stomach issues' ..and a whole generation didn't think, or afford to think much of this luxury . Therefore there had been a deficit in that account .
Now, with this win , the future generation has a catalyst to dream of excellence in sports too... who knows .. someone who is spurred on to prove that even local borns can make it too !
...huh..that's what I think anyway ...hahaha !
" but i'm pretty shocked to hear SOMEONE mentioned in an interview at last nite that sg have to rely on FT for medals and we can't expect much from singaporeans.. "
err... duh, is that something new? everybody knows it what... don't u know the World top number 1, play with Li Jia Wei, is from the same school. At that time, China governemnt won't allow singapore to touch the number 1 player (now) but give away Li Jia Wei... aiyaa.. all in the news... nothing new to us... well, if you want, maybe singapore can "get" Michael Phelps lo... ha ha.. like it or not, Li Jia Wei got more than 1 millions rewards now.. and she is pretty cute.. I like her of course.. but then, please get the statement correctly... don't fool yourself and your next generation about the FT.. Singaproean got 1 problem, they always think they are right, aduh.. sometimes, be realistic and accept the fact la.. i bet many singaporean don't even know how to play ping pong, LOL....

whether FT or not, sg managed to be up in the medal tally after near to half a century.
for so many years, sg is not particular getting medals in games like commonwealth games, asian games, olympic... dun know why the sudden urge to be in the "medal" mood.. well, so much money spent on training, rewards, etc.. rewards can be given, but need not be such great amount.... imho, it will be more meaningful if these monies can be used to extend a longer helping hand to those less fortunate singaporeans...
but i'm pretty shocked to hear SOMEONE mentioned in an interview at last nite that sg have to rely on FT for medals and we can't expect much from singaporeans..
I'm not sure if all the negative views about FT triggered by jealousy or fear that FT will take over local.
If you know enough about table tennis, and if you bother to look into the world ranking http://www.allabouttabletennis.com/support-files/table-tennis-world-ranking-women-2008-07.pdf, top 50 positions dominated by Chinese. They are representing many other countries other than Sgp.
It's too competitive in China, so many of those "dropouts" are given opportunities in other countries, and with the opportunities, they give everything they could and achieve where they are today.
Instead of keep dismissing them as FT, why not ask yourself what you can learn from these FTs. Their perservence, and determination are positive traits that we can learn from.
Lets keep an open mind and celebrate their achievement!

all right, Malaysia loss to China too... silver for men single. oh well, 1 million dollars miss as well..
that's all for olympic games... let's cheers for remainding games~
ha ha.. how can u have this type of mentality, sooner or later, give another 10-20 years.. you can see singaporean all become china people... while all the immigrant from China become citizen and bear more fruits than the local sg... the days will come ... ....
okay, game over.. 3-0
