Although China has great historical clout when it comes to richness of culture, civilisation and human wisdom...

Economically, it is still 'young at age'. Pegging the world's performance on the Chinese stock market is still not hip.

In the world markets, I'd rather stick to the Dow Jones to call the shots, as it has done since ages.

Chinese economy has a great influence over world economy. If calculated by purchasing power, China's economic growth accounts for one-third of the world's total. Chinese economy has not only boosted world trade and economic growth, it has also played an important part in reducing global inflation, said an economist from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

Since 1990, Chinese export volume has increased by nearly 700%. Among them, export of toys accounts for 90% of the world's total, and the export of clothes and electronic products accounts for 50% and 16% of the world's total, respectively. From 2001 to 2005, as a result of cheap Chinese export products, inflation rate was down by 0.28 percentage point in the United States, 0.37 percentage point in the European Union, 0.70 percentage point in Singapore, and 0.65 point in Japan. In addition, as China had bought many US treasury bonds, the interest rates for US treasury bonds were able to keep at a relatively low level. From 2001 to 2005, the interest rates for the ten-year US Treasury Note were reduced by 0.15 percentage point year on year.

I think its good that the China share market falls. They need to cool off.

What I fear most is a meltdown triggering a massive sell-off that spreads like a contagion around the region. That will be disastrous.

Chinese shares plunge again, down 15% in a week

Chinese shares plunged again on Monday, with the major Shanghai Composite Index falling by 8.26 percent after heavy falls last week.

Investors were left rubbing their eyes after a cumulative fall of over 15 percent since the bourses struck a high point of 4335.18 points on May 29.

The major Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares, closed at 3,670.4 points, down 330.34 points or 8.26 percent, from the previous close last Friday.

The slump is the largest decline since February 27 when the index dropped by 8.84 percent.

The smaller Shenzhen Component Index saw a 7.76 percent drop on Monday, closing at 11,468.46 points, down 964.23 points.

The two bourses reported total turnover of 225.89 billion yuan for the day, down sharply from the previous trading day of 346.58 billion yuan.

About 800 stocks, about one third of the total, dropped by the maximum ten percent.
