lewsh88,

Correction: Read newspapers and watch tv on news that will affect stock prices.

Agree with you.  Once announcement made, it's settled.  Like you said, try to make money and after that, either eat or travel....etc

If you do not watch TV or read the papers or listen to taxi drivers' conversations, you will not be disturbed by the arguments on pay rise between the gahmen and the people. Then, you will not get worked up.

I am a very happy person because I skip all news on TV and the newspapers on the announcement concerning ministers pay. (There is no such thing as a debate as far as the Singapore government is concerned. Everything is already settled when they announce anything).

I wisely spend my time watching SJ forum, watching stock movement daily and watching football. Better to try and make some money trading equities rather than getting annoyed and worked up with people's pay!!!!

Hi shplayer, The increase in population not necessary equals to the GDP growth. If that is the case, then our neighbours should have a higher GDP than us. GDP growth of a nation depends on the prosperity and the labour policies and of course the quality of the middle class (earning power...etc.....)  of a nation. Of course, the ability of the Govt to create good jobs and bring in good talents helps.

S'gal, That's exactly what the Govt don't wish S'pore to be like the state of SPCA - pay them well and ensure that you get the right person for the job. A voluntary organisation needs full commitment and make sure the job is done, else don't volunteer! Cheers!

Let me throw this to the floor.

Over the past 10 years, our population growth (citizens, PRs, employment pass, WP holders) have grown by about 4 % pa? So, logically this population increase will contribute to Spore's GDP....by the same percentage...right?

So, the govt's claim to high GDP is in a large part fuelled by population growth (>50% of GDP growth).....

that is why they are so keen to promote the FT policy.....and increase population to 6.5 million.

Ours is surely a FAR SIGHTED govt....

It would nice if some of the donations could be distributed to SJ to improve the speed of this site and some to help those who lost their coffin monies to the market. ..... :)

Peace

PM and Ministers must be paid well so that they do not need to think of trading stocks. And they can devote all their times in governing the countries. Sell their souls wholeheartedly to the nation !!!!

haha... let me qualify my statement on SPCA... I didn't mean that he donates EVERYTHING to SPCA. Of course there are many more charities that are deserving of donation. But I do hope that a small portion goes to SPCA?

The SPCA compound is really in a bad shape and the volunteers are practically begging people to donate food to keep the animals alive. :(

Singapore is actually a very vulnerable country. Sometimes people might still a bit naive about this fact. Just look around us and see how other countries are faring. Despite some of the happiness we might have of government policies, never take for granted what we have

See what I like about the garmen.  They have foresight.  Even the word 'peanut' has been thought of so carefully before it's been used by the wife of the former Prime Minister..................Cheers guys!!

Luckily our tiny Red Dot is no peanut. It is a tough nut to crack though! Many have tried and all have failed and many will - many thanks to our good and strong Govt and of course our Arm Forces!

Cheers to this tiny RED DOT and her people!

My CEO already got paid more than 5 million SGD last year, comparing the burden and responsibility our PM is holding, I personally think what he is getting now is really just peanuts.
