December 13, 2006 - 11:49AM
Investment firm Babcock & Brown has launched an initial public offering to list a new structured finance fund on the Singapore Stock Exchange.
Babcock & Brown Structured Finance Fund Ltd (BBSFF) is aiming to raise about $S342.88 million ($A283 million) through the issue of 323.46 million shares at $S1.06 ($A0.875) each.
Most of the shares will be offered in an international placement to investors, including institutional and other investors.
An offering of 6.47 million shares will be made to the Singaporean public.
Babcock & Brown said the institutional placement tranche of the offering was oversubscribed.
Dividends for the fund have been forecast at 9.54 Singapore cents (A7.88 cents) per share for 2007, providing a yield of nine per cent for 2007, plus an additional 0.52 Singapore cents (A0.43 cents) per share.
"The offer has been significantly oversubscribed reflecting the attractive dividend yield and the capital growth potential of the underlying assets in the initial portfolio," said Babcock & Brown chief executive, Phil Green.
BBSFF shares are expected to begin trading on December 20, 2006.

Biofuels is one promising area.
The fund is offering a 9% dividend yield next year, with potential for further upside. It announced an IPO of 323.46m shares at $1.06 each. The public offer, which opens today, comprises 6.47m public offer shares and 316.99m placement shares. Trading is slated to begin on 20 Dec, after the offer closes next Monday.
One of the fund's target sectors is "alternative assets" such as biofuels and song copyrights. Such funds give people a chance to invest in assets that are usually not listed.
