Chip stocks hit amid sales warnings

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Chipmaker shares took a hit early Tuesday as Marvell Technology Group Ltd. joined a growing list of companies warning that sales would be weaker in the quarter.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 9 points, or 2%, to 444.16. Marvell Tech and Broadcom Corp were among the leading percentage decliners.

Marvell Tech fell 16% to $16.03 -- a new 52-week low. Broadcom, clipped by a Wall Street downgrade, dropped 5% to $29.35. American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu cut Broadcom to sell from neutral.

"We are concerned that its December quarter outlook and 2007 estimates are at risk as we believe inventories still need to be worked down," Wu said in a research note.

All three companies are in the same industry right? Which one has the best long term prospects?

Of the three, I would certainly choose UTAC.

I bought UTAC @ 0.73 last Friday. Today tried Chartered @ $1.15.

Hopefully it is a good bet...
