UOBKH said it has cut its target price to $0.96 from $1.20 in view of the earnings volatility for the company's HDD suspension assemblies.

It noted that significant improvement in sales volume will only be felt from the first quarter of next year, although average selling price is expected to recover in Q4 this year when the new 160 GB/platter 3.5" programme from Western Digital goes into mass production. In view of this, UOBKH has revised its 2006 net loss forecast from $7.6m to $14m, but is keeping its "buy" call on the stock.

Info given at the interview is not new, having been previously disclosed at their results briefing. With 3Q06 results expected to remain in the red and margin profit expected in 4Q06 (seasonally strongest quarter), 1Q07 (seasonally slower quarter) would gain dip into the red. Forward PE of 13-14x is demanding relative to its historical average as well as peer group average of 7-8x.

It expects to return to profit in Q4 thanks to strong disk drive shipments and demand for components for cars and LCD TVs. But it still expects to report a net loss for the full year, due to the inventory write-off and restructuring charges that pushed the firm into the red in Q2, CEO Steve Campbell told Reuters in an interview.

"We're not expecting any further charges or write-downs in 2H, but the group as a whole expects to be profitable in Q4," Campbell said. He added: "Revenues will grow Q3 qoq, due to higher shipment volumes and stable ASPs," or average selling prices.

It makes and assembles parts for LCD TVs, computer notebooks, printers, cars and MP3 players such as Apple's iPod under its 83 percent-owned metal-stamping unit. This unit competes with local rivals including Amtek and Seksun.

Its 74%-owned hard-disk-drive division makes suspension assemblies -- devices that hold the magnetic read/write heads above the spinning disks in disk drives.

Customers include Seagate, Western Digital and Toshiba. Its rivals are U.S.-based Hutchinson Technology Inc. as well as Japan's NHK Spring Co. Ltd.

Campbell said 2006 revenue growth would be driven largely by its metal-stamping and components assembly unit. When asked to comment on analysts' 2006 sales growth estimates of 13-17%, he said: "We think those revenue forecasts are achievable."

It seen posting a 15% increase in sales for '06 yoy. Campbell said the outlook for next year remained rosy, thanks to increasing demand for larger capacity hard drives used in personal video recorders and high-definition TVs, as well as components in plasma TVs and automobiles. "Our disk-drive unit (sales) will grow in line with or better than industry growth of about 15-17% next year, while our metal-stamping division will also grow strongly" he said.

The metal-stamping unit had posted historical compounded annual growth rates of 30-40% for sales, but 2007 was expected to see a slower expansion due to a higher base, he added.

CFO Yong Kok Hoon added he was "comfortable" with analysts' revenue growth estimates of about 8-20% for 2007.

On track to achieve its shipment guidance of 83-90m. Maxtor suppliers said that orders started to decline only in March as the merger with Seagate draws near. It's expected to reported yoy improvements in earnings for Mar and Jun quarter. It trades at < 8x '06 earnings, which is less than the industry average of about 10x. Based on its 74.3% stake in MPT, the profitable OACE unit is actually valued at negative worth, which is unjustifible. Buy.

there's a rule i always use when trading. Not sure if anyone else agrees with me. but this rule has saved me many times from getting into a bad trade I try not to buy or sell before 3pm. The reason is the market is not stable in the morning. the big fish (investment houses, brokers etc..) usually play in the afternoon. so the big trades occur later in the day. so dun be too worried over price movements in the morning.
