Hi-P is on sustained downtrend... be cautious!
Hey Victorian,
what your view of Hi-P?
do you think the coming FY result of this counter will be really bad?

Hi-P Selldown is excessive
HI- P- We featured the stock at $0.935 and suggested that a break above
$0.95 would be positive. Following an intial move towards $0.965, the
stock has since corrected to a low of $0.885 over a period of 3 consecutive
days. We think this decline is excessive as there is no negative newsflow.
On an absolute worst case, the stock could decline towards prior low of
$0.87. Still, the weekly chart looks bullish and the series of higher
highs and higher lows are not invalidated. We recommend readers to hold on
to the stock at this level or to consider dollar averaging at $0.87-0.88.
For subsequent resistance level, we would apply a 50% retracement of the
decline from $0.98-0.87( potential low) or $0.925 as a potential near term
cap. At $0.885, we think it is too late to be sellers.

Hi-P expects to do better in 2007 after Q3 net profit slips
Electronics contract manufacturer Hi-P International Ltd expects its performance to be better next year than it has been this year, the company said.
The company said its net profit for the third quarter was at 15.39 mln sgd, 38 pct less than a year before, despite increased sales, as margins remained under pressure. For the first nine months of the year, its net profit was 44.01 mln sgd, down 34 pct year-on-year.
Third-quarter sales rose 38 pct to 220.35 mln sgd but operating margin fell to 6.9 pct from 16.9 pct a year before and 10.0 pct in the second quarter because of higher costs of raw materials and labor.
Hi-P executive chairman and chief executive Yao Hsiao Tung said in a written statement: "Our results have met our guidance and we are making steady progress in improving our revenue and net profit through process improvement and cost control."
Later Yao told a briefing: "My feeling is we have reached the bottom as we consolidate our business. Next year, when we have new customers and new projects coming in, we should be performing better."
Capacity expansion in China, Mexico and Poland will contribute next year, according to Gerhard Zebe, managing director of Hi-P's consumer electronics division.
"We can see demand from larger customers coming in," Zebe said.
However, earnings are likely to remain sluggish before they improve, with the company expecting revenue and net profit for the fourth quarter to be similar to what they were in the third.
"We continue to expect the revenue for the second half of the year to be stronger than the first, but as we have earlier commented, full-year 2006 net profit would not match 2005," Yao said.
At 3.27 pm, Hi-P was down 0.025 sgd or 2.91 pct at 0.835, with 513,000 shares traded.

Singapore-listed Hi-P Q3 net profit seen hit by expansion bid
SINGAPORE (XFN-ASIA) - Electronics contract manufacturer Hi-P International Ltd is expected to report on Thursday that third-quarter net profit fell sharply from last year despite increased sales, as margins suffered amid efforts by the company to expand the services it can offer clients.
Hi-P which mainly supplies plastic casings for mobile handsets is investing on other processes like vacuum metallization. Vacuum metallization involves coating non-metallic objects like plastic parts with a layer of metal such as aluminum.
Analysts polled by XFN-Asia expect net profit to come in between 15.3 mln and 19.0 mln sgd for the three months to September, against 24.7 mln in the same period last year. Hi-P reported net income of 14.25 mln sgd in the second quarter.
"Handsets should have started to pick up like their other consumer electronics business," DBS Vickers Securities analyst Tan Ai Teng said.
"But I think the expenses relating to all these new process development could take a toll on their bottomline, so I don't see much improvement on a quarter-on-quarter basis," said Tan who pegs net profit of 15.3 mln sgd on sales of 184 mln in the third quarter, up from revenue of 160.23 mln achieved in the same period last year.
Things might be looking better for Hi-P in the current quarter when production starts for three new handset models for a major customer, said UOB Kay Hian analyst Jonathan Koh.
"Their business with Motorola is improving but I think the ramp-up from Motorola will be more significant in the fourth quarter," Koh said.
Cost savings from doing the vacuum metallization process in-house will also be achieved later in the fourth quarter, he added.
Koh sees Hi-P's third-quarter net profit at 19 mln sgd with sales of 192 mln.
For her part, Morgan Stanley analyst Sharon Shih expects Hi-P to report net income of 17.5 mln sgd on sales of 188 mln.
"(Hi-P's business) is gradually back on track. It's just that the better entry point (for earnings recovery) would be some time next year because the company is still trying to look for more customers and more contracts from Motorola," Shih said, adding that gross margin probably fell to 17 pct during the quarter from 25 pct a year ago.
ABN Amro analyst Edwin Goh is looking at net profit of 19 mln sgd from sales of 187 mln.

Hi Singaporegal,
I suppose you mean the market-movers? Of course all are at the mercy of the market-movers. :)

True lah... I guess its logical that if more people share the same analysis then the chances of a stock behaving as predicted are higher.
However, this does not apply to the professional research analysts... god knows what kind of hidden agenda they have....

Hi Singaporegal,
Precisely, that's why we must come together in the total analysis, which will then make us invincible market players!!! ... Just kidding :)
Take care.

Hi puntit,
Do you use chart patterns only or combine with other charts? I find that if you combine chart patterns together with trend analysis, the accuracy will be higher.

Hi mwz,
A flag's staff (the pole) is form on the day/week when the price surge occurs following which a short period of congestion in the shape of a small triangle, wedge or sloping or trapezoid occurs, often signifying a continuation of the trend. But it obviously failed in the case of Hi-P last week. In the case of Ho Bee however, it was successfully accomplished around the same period and the flagpole formation is passed.
Happy trading!
