Bidding for Rank? - ALERT
? A Bloomberg article last night highlighted a potential cash takeover bid on Rank, UK?s second largest gaming operator for £485MN (S$1.5BN) by Genting Bhd. Genting International (GIL), a 53% subsidiary of Genting, currently owns 11% of Rank. We think this is an unlikely occurrence for the following reasons:
1. A bid on Rank could trigger an anti-monopoly investigation on GIL. GIL, through Genting Stanley, currently corners 33% of the casino market in UK. If it were to take over Rank, GIL?s market share would rise to 56%. Hence we think this is likely to be a financial investment rather than a strategic stake.
2. GIL?s balance sheet already looks quite stretched while focus is set on executing Resorts World at Sentosa in Singapore. Although GIL is currently in a net cash position of S$600MN
(as of FY07), this was a result of fund-raising activities (the Group raised S$2BN of equity plus an additional S$4BN of debt for project financing) earmarked for its S$6BN integrated resort project in Singapore. The Group does not have the extra S$1.5BN of funds available on its balance sheet to acquire Rank, unless it goes to the market for additional cash calls. In this
environment, we think this could prove quite challenging.
3. Our UK gaming analyst believes that the Guoco Group, which owns 9% of Rank, is the most likely suitor for Rank given its ambitions to expand its UK gaming presence. Guoco's
operations currently include the Clermont Club in London and the Thistle Hotel chain. It has also applied for 20 new casino licenses though only granted 4 so far. Our analyst believes the
acquisition of Rank would fast forward its aim to be a serious player in the UK gaming market. Guoco is presently controlled by Malaysian tycoon Mr. Quek Leng Chan.
Separately, GIL shares could experience some near term weakness in the following weeks as Resorts World completes the disposal of its 6.2% stake in GIL via non-renounceable offer for sale. To recap, Resorts is offering GIL shares to Resorts shareholders at S$0.384/share, representing a 37% discount at current levels. Maintain Neutral.

i got an mail from my broker stated that report from JP morgan that Genting is going to buy RANK which is the 2nd largest casino in europe i think but not firm whether they will get it cos their main focus gor genting group is on our sentosa island.... So if this being pull thru.. price definately will hit .65.... However, if being shot down by the proposal... we can see 50cts range soon.....
trade with care.....

so is my $0.65 really happening soon? hope so

This burger moving very slow one, 0.005 up or down only. But watch out this joker, its one of STI stock, don't play play. 0.65 will reach if the market moves swiftly. I am also one of the supporters lah. Cheers.
correction.... i hope to see that price rather.
genting $0.65 within 2 weeks.....
Malaysia will come out of this better, stronger, no doubt about it. After 50 years, it's about time to change and give the region a run for their money.
It is the parlimentary seat that is the issue here. In Malaysia, MP can resign their party and join the rival party. Without the need of re-election.
If 30 MPs from BN runoff to the opposition, it will "topple" the garment.
The opposition has no experience in running a country, as you know, BN has been running the country for half a century.
And if BN is sending pple around the country to investigate, I think it is rather concerning.
It will affect us. ALL stocks will be affected.
only 5 state under the opp nothing wrong....
Another critical situation is the uncertainty of our neighbour country political stability. Read Singchew.com.my or Nanyang,com.my. I read one of them daily, anytime, as the news papers are on live.
TA outlook for this counter is bearish. Acc/Dist and Chaikin plunging south.

The moral of the story is that, don't touch this counter until end 2009. Don't hope for good diveident from this counter. God bless. Cheers.
Those Resort World shareholders who had got their Genting shares @ 38cts on 18 March, would hv grab their profit 1st on that 1st day giving them an almost 80% profit.Until the volume goes down, those who wanted to would hv done it, leaving those who are still thinking of long term. This is a good opportunity to accumulate if you are going long with no dividends until 2010.
genting ipo price was $0.35. i bought genting more than 10 years ago when it was still traded in us$. at that time, they offered right issues 5 for every 2 shares held at US$0.13. sold some last year but missed the peak of $1.20, still holding more than about 1.5 million shares till now, wanted to cut when it was $0.63 but didn't do it. will probably just continue to hold.
